Rowan Wins In Overtime at Drew, 12-11

MADISON, NJ – Midfielder Nicole Valianti scored the winning goal for the Rowan University women’s lacrosse team in a 12-11 victory over Drew University on Saturday.

Valianti (fr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) recorded the game winner on a pass from midfielder Carly Welsh (jr. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) with 2:11 remaining. At the end of regulation, the score was tied at 10. Drew took the lead on an unassisted goal by midfielder Lindsey Perno (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) at 1:19 into the six minute overtime. Midfielder Trish Harrington (fr. Suffern, NY/Suffern) tied it for the Profs at 2:46.

Welsh was Rowan’s scoring leader with three goals and one assist. Attack Lauren Crennan (jr. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and midfielder Ali Goodman (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) contributed with two goals apiece. Attacks Caitlin Meseroll (sr. Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) and Alli Dickey (fr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) and midfielder Kerry O’Donnell (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) each added a goal. Goalie Alicia Mannino (jr. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) made 14 saves.

Drew (5-3) was led by midfielder Stacie Brown (fr. Upper Marlboro, MD/Calverton School) with five goals and two assists. Attack Cara Jeffries (fr. Central Square, NY/Paul V Moore) totaled three goals and Perno followed with two. Attack Morgan Kenney (so. Scituate, MA/Loomis Chaffee) had one goal.

In the second half, Rowan was ahead 8-6 after Welsh’s unassisted goal at 35:18. Drew scored two straight that tied the score at eight. Jeffries hit the net for the first goal while Brown had the second. The Profs went back up by two after O’Donnell (43:04) and Dickey (49:13) each scored unassisted. Brown cut the deficit to one with an unassisted goal at 50:17. Jeffries tied the score with 1:10 left and sent the game into overtime.

The Profs were up 6-5 after the first period. After trailing 4-2, Rowan had four unanswered goals to take the lead 6-4. Goodman had the first one on a free position at 19:20. Meseroll followed with an unassisted goal (22:13) then Welsh had two straight (23:59, 24:48). Brown had the last goal (28:11) of the half for Drew.

Rowan (6-2) travels to Goucher College on Tuesday, April 1 for a 4 p.m. game.
