FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Rowan University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed at the Battleground Relays on Saturday. The relays were held at the University of Mary Washington.

Kyle Hayes (fr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) won the long jump with a leap of 21’ 8.25” (6.61 meters). Hayes had a second place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.33. Nehemiah Burney-Porter (so. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) took first in the triple jump with 42’ 4.25” (12.91 meters) followed by Hayes second with 41’ 10.50” (12.76 meters). Sean Corey (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) was the winner in the javelin with 195’ 8” (59.63) and Sean Biehn (so. Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington City) followed in second place with 179’ 5” (54.68 meters).

In the women’s events, Danielle Warren (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) won the long jump with a leap of 16’ 7.25” (5.06 meters). Warren also came in third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.57) and Heather Carbone (fr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) was eighth (1:18.21).

Mason Campbell (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) finished second in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:00.60. Eric Thomas (jr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) took second in the 10000 meters (35:56.00) and Andrew Vasta (jr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) followed in third place (36:08.90). In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Vasta came in second with a time of 10:22.80.

In the 1500 meters, Greg Kuczynski (jr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) was fourth (4:24.33) followed by Brian Quilty (fr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) fifth (4:27.93). Phil Dunn (sr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and Mark Urban (fr. Clarksboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) finished seventh (4:37.31) and eighth (4:43.11) respectively. Dan Ratty (jr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) took fourth (16:21.80) in the 5,000 meters and Quilty came in sixth (16:56.40) while Dunn was 13th (17:40.50).

The men’s 1600 sprint medley relay took third place (3:50.76) and the distance medley came in third (11:00.89). The 4x400 meter relay had a fourth place finish with a time of 3:34.62 and the 4x800 meter relay also took fourth in 8:27.05.

In the field events, Nick Tyson (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) was third in the pole vault with 12’ 6” (3.81 meters). Steve Hague (fr. Vineland, NJ/Buena Reg.) took third in the discus throw with a toss of 128’ 10” (39.26 meters). Antonio Tronco (jr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Biehn were sixth (111’ 11”, 34.11 meters) and eighth (106’ 1”, 32.33 meters) respectively.

Brian Makinson (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) tied for sixth in the high jump with a height of 5’ 8” (1.72 meters). In the long jump, Burney-Porter finished seventh (18’ 10.50”, 5.75 meters) and Tyson was 10th (17’ 9.50”, 5.75 meters).

For the women, Allison Catenacci (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) took second in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:17.41. Katelyn Sammon (sr. Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) finished in fifth place (5:35.83) while Liz Guarini (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) was eighth (5:45.11) and Laura O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) was 10th (5:46.11). The women’s distance medley relay finished third (13:39.85) and the 4x100 meter relay was fourth (55.79).

Next week, Rowan travels to Philadelphia on Saturday, April 5 for the Penn Invitational at 10 a.m.
