SANFORD, FL – The Rowan University baseball team pulled out a 7-6 victory over SUNY Plattsburgh in 10 innings at the Russ Matt Tournament on Friday.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, catcher Dan Krause (sr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) hit a double and third baseman Paul Urbanovich (sr. Rutherford, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) crossed home plate for the winning run. Urbanovich reached with a single and stole second.
Rowan improves to 10-3, while SUNY Plattsburgh has a 2-8 record. Right hander Kevin O’Hara (jr. Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) threw two innings in relief to improve to 5-1. He allowed one earned run on two hits. Right hander Anthony Cavalier (fr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) tossed 6.1 scoreless innings, striking out nine hitters, before O’Hara took over. Lefty Tom Holmstrom (fr. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) started on the mound for the Profs.
Center fielder Garrett Mull (jr. Chatsworth, NJ/Lenape) went one for one with two RBIs. First baseman Tom Ready (jr. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) added two hits (five at bats), two runs scored and one RBI. Right fielder John McMullin (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) was two for five with a double, while Urbanovich recorded two hits in four trips to the plate and a double. Krause contributed two hits in four at bats, two RBIs and a double.
SUNY Plattsburgh went up 3-0 in the top of the first inning, but Rowan answered with two runs in the bottom half. The Cardinals added two runs in the second inning to go ahead 5-2. Rowan scored one run in the third and fifth innings to trail 5-4. The Profs took the lead, 6-5, with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Plattsburgh scored one run in the top of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.
Rowan plays Albright College in its second game of the day. The game began at 5:15 p.m.
