ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Midfielder Alayna Morris scored four goals to lead Rowan University over Plymouth State College (NH), 20-7 on Monday.
Morris (so. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) also had one assist. Midfielder Trish Harrington (fr. Suffern, NY/Suffern) and attack Lauren Crennan (jr. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) each contributed with three goals. Attacks Tori Hart (so. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Alli Dickey (fr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) added two goals apiece.
Midfielders Carly Welsh (jr. Allenwood, NJ/Wall), Allison Goodman (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), Nicole Valianti (fr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) and Meryl Settar (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) each scored once. Attacks Stacie McKinley (jr. Seaville, NJ/Ocean City) and Cailtin Meseroll (sr. Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) both hit the net one time.
For Plymouth State, attack Taylor Cambal led the team with three goals. Midfielder Rhiannon Groff and attack Kalie Judd followed with two apiece.
Rowan improves to 2-2 on the season while Plymouth State drops to 0-2. The Profs totaled 46 shots and the Panthers had 14. Rowan goalie Alicia Mannino (jr. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) made seven saves. In the Panthers’ net, Sarah Beebe stopped 13 shots.
In the first half, Rowan went up 3-1 after goals by Crennan (6:31) and Morris (8:43). The two teams exchanged goals two more times before the Profs had four straight to lead 8-3 at 20:23. Morris found the net three times and Crennan once. With 8:37 remaining, Groff cut the deficit to four with an unassisted goal. Rowan had two more scores, one from Harrington and Valianti, to lead 10-4 at the intermission.
Groff started the scoring in the second half at 31:46. The Profs then had seven unanswered goals that made the score 17-5 with 17:25 left. Dickey and Harrington each had two goals in the run. Plymouth State followed with two straight goals by Judd. Rowan ended the game with goals by Goodman, Hart and Settar.
Rowan is back at home on Thursday, March 20 against Washington College (MD) at 6 p.m.
