TOMS RIVER, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s indoor track teams competed at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships on Monday. The men took sixth place, while the women finished eighth. The meet was held at the John Bennett Indoor Track Complex in Toms River, NJ.
Kyle Hayes (fr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) won the long jump with a distance of 6.93 meters. Hayes also came in fourth in the triple jump (12.72 meters), seventh in the 55 meters (6.70) and he tied for ninth in the 200 meters (23.38). Nick Tyson (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) finished third in the pole vault with a height of 3.95 meters.
In the one mile, Mike Rivera (jr. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley) took sixth place (4:31.51). Brian Makinson (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) was sixth in the high jump with 1.85 meters. In the 5000 meters, Eric Thomas (jr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) and Brian Quilty (fr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) were sixth (16:24.45) and ninth (17:03.44) respectively. Nehemiah Burney-Porter (so. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) captured seventh place in the 55 meter hurdles (8.13) and Kevin Gauntt (so. Delanco, NJ/Seneca) followed, 10th (8.37). Burney-Porter also had an eighth place finish in the triple jump (12.47 meters). Dan Ratty (jr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) came in eighth in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:27.58.
The men’s distance medley relay of Jeff Terebey (fr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca), Nick Huddy (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.), Dan Collier (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Andrew Vasta (jr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) finished fifth (11:12.16). The 4x200 (1:37.20), 4x400 (3:37.53) and 4x800 meter relays (8:20.57) all took sixth place. The 4x200 relay consisted of Dan Veres (fr. Howell, NJ/Howell), Reggie Williams (fr. Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck), Steven Rosado (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) and Demitri Alicakos (fr. Oceanport, NJ/Shore Reg.). Makinson, Rosado, Veres and Benjamin Bradley (fr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) made up the 4x400 team. The 4x800 relay included Collier, Huddy, Vasta and Rivera.
For the women, Dannielle Warren (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) captured third place in the 55 meter hurdles (8.91). Warren also tied for fourth in the long jump (4.92 meters) and placed ninth in the 55 meters (7.75). Allison Catenacci (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) came in seventh in the 800 meters (2:29.11). Alexis Barclay (fr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) took ninth in the shot put with a toss of 9.98 meters. In the 3000 meters, Liz Guarini (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and Laura O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) were ninth (12:28.79) and 10th (12:31.18) respectively.
Rowan travels to the New York University Fast Track meet on Friday, February 29 at 2 p.m.
