EWING, NJ – Four players scored in double figures to lead The College of New Jersey women’s basketball team to a 74-61 win over visiting Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday.
Guard Lisa Koch (jr. Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Twp.) scored a game-high 19 points and forward Kelsey Kutch (fr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) had 16. Center Hillary Klimowicz (jr. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) totaled 14 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots. Guard Alyssa Michella (jr. Washington Twp., NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) added 11 points and eight boards.
The Lions improve to 19-5 overall and 10-2 in the conference. The Profs have a 14-10 record and a 6-6 NJAC mark. For Rowan, guard Kristina Wallace (sr. Logan Twp., NJ/Clearview Reg.) posted 16 points, while forward Amanda Jennings (so. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) had 13. Forward Jessica Nimbley (so. Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) and guard Gina Catanzariti (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) contributed with 10 points apiece. Guard Brynn DeGroff (jr. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) chipped in with seven rebounds and five assists.
TCNJ opened the game with an 11-0 surge over the first 5:43. Klimowicz scored six points, Kutch added three and Michella had two. Klimowicz’s layup at 7:13 gave the Lions a 23-6 advantage. Kutch’s free throw at 4:08 put TCNJ up by 20 points (31-11). The Profs outscored the Lions 8-3 to close out the period. Jennings recorded four points, while Nimbley and Catanzariti each had two.
In the second half, TCNJ had a 50-32 lead following a layup by Kutch at 11:11. Rowan went on a 9-3 run to come within 12 points (53-41) at 9:52. Jennings and Wallace both had a three-point play and Catanzariti nailed a three pointer. Jennings’ layup at 2:37 cut the deficit to 11 points (68-57). The Lions didn’t allow the Profs to come any closer.
In its final game of the regular season, Rowan hosts NJAC opponent Kean University on Saturday, February 23 at 1 p.m.
