GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Karima Blackwell posted a double-double with career-highs of 30 points and 19 rebounds to lead Rutgers-Camden to a 68-65 win over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.
Blackwell (fr. Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) made nine of 15 shots from the floor and went 12 for 12 from the free throw line. Guard Amber Parker (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) scored 16 points and dished five assists. Guard Krystal Jankowski (sr. Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) grabbed eight rebounds and handed out five assists.
Rutgers-Camden improves to 8-16 overall and 2-10 in the conference. Rowan has a 14-9 record and a 6-5 mark. For the Profs, forward Ashley Cieplicki (jr. Haworth, NJ/Dumont) totaled 16 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Kristina Wallace (sr. Logan Twp., NJ/Clearview Reg.) contributed with 15 points, six assists and five steals. Guard Gina Catanzariti (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) scored 12 points off the bench.
Rowan led 34-25 at the intermission. Rutgers-Camden started the second period with a 13-6 run over the first 4:03 to cut the deficit to two points (40-38). Blackwell had seven points and Parker added four. Guard Nicole Perrini’s (sr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) three-pointer at 14:51 increased the Profs’ advantage to seven points (45-38). The Scarlet Raptors fought back to go up by one (47-46) after a three-pointer by guard Jasmine White (fr. Camden, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) at 10:57. The score was tied five times with the last one coming with 44 seconds on the clock (65-65). Blackwell had a layup to tie the game and her free throw gave the Scarlet Raptors a one point lead (66-65). Jankowski converted two foul shots with 17 seconds left to seal the victory.
In the first half, Rutgers-Camden was ahead 14-13 at 10:29. Rowan had a 19-0 surge for a 31-14 advantage at 3:47. Wallace recorded five points in the stretch, while forward Amanda Jennings (so. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) and Catanzariti each had four. The Scarlet Raptors closed out the period with an 11-3 run to make the score, 34-25 at halftime. Parker scored eight of the 11 points. She led all first half scorers with 12 points. Blackwell chipped in with six points and seven rebounds. For Rowan, Wallace had 11 points, while Cieplicki compiled eight points and six boards.
