GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team came back in the second half to defeat Trinity University (DC), 80-73 in a nonconference game on Wednesday night.

The Profs had four players that scored in double figures. Guard Gina Catanzariti (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) contributed with 15 points off the bench. Forward Jessica Nimbley (so. Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) and guard Brynn DeGroff (jr. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) added 14 points apiece. Nimbley also had a career mark with seven steals. Forward Ashley Cieplicki (jr. Haworth, NJ/Dumont) totaled 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.

Rowan has an overall record of 14-8 while Trinity drops to 4-19 on the season. For the Tigers, guards Danielle Pettis and Preshuse Jackson each recorded a game-high 23 points. Pettis also recorded seven assists. Center Ashley West was in double figures with 14 points. Forward Danielle Owens pulled down eight boards.

Trinity started the final period with a five point lead (43-38) and turned it into 12 (52-40) at 16:35. Rowan trailed by five points (54-49) at 13:15 after Nimbley’s basket. The Profs pulled within one point (61-60) when guard Nicole Perrini (sr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) hit a three-pointer. Guard Michelle Lala (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) made a foul shot at 7:17 that tied the score at 61 and her second put Rowan up by one. The Tigers took back the lead at 6:57 when Jackson made a layup and a free throw. Catanzariti’s layup at 4:03 tied the score at 66. Lala followed with two foul shots (68-66) with 3:43 remaining and the Profs never trailed again. Nimbley’s basket put Rowan up 74-68 with 1:16 left. The closest Trinity came was four points (76-72) at the 35 second mark after two free throws by Pettis.

In the first half, Trinity led by five points (11-6) after West’s jumper at 15:41. Rowan followed with eight straight points to go ahead 14-11 with 13:47 remaining. Forward Amanda Jennings (so. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) and DeGroff each contributed with four points. The Profs were up by one point (16-15) after Nimbley made a layup at 12:50. The Tigers rallied with a 14-2 run to lead 29-18 with 9:21 left. Pettis and Jackson scored five points apiece while West had four in the surge.

Rowan came back to cut the deficit to three points (31-28) at 5:19. Trinity went back up by eight points (37-29) with 3:44 left. Rowan pulled within three points (41-38) after Catanzariti had a layup with 1:44 remaining. The Tigers were on top by five points (43-38) at the intermission. Jackson ended the period with 14 points and West totaled 12.

Rowan hosts conference opponent Rutgers-Camden on Saturday, February 16 at 3 p.m. The women’s basketball team is having “Think Pink Day” on Saturday and fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game. “Think Pink Day” is in conjunction with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association to promote breast cancer awareness on the court, across the campus and in the community. There will be raffles and a halftime shooting contest. All proceeds will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
