GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team defeated John Jay College, 67-44 in a nonconference game on Monday night.
Forward Jessica Nimbley (jr. Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) and guard Alissa Lamey (fr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) each scored 10 points for the Profs. Nimbley also had six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Lamey dished seven assists. Guards Brynn DeGroff (sr. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) and Gina Catanzariti (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) contributed with nine points apiece while forward Amanda Jennings (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) added eight. Catanzariti grabbed six rebounds.
Rowan improves to 4-3 overall while John Jay drops to 1-6 on the season. For the Bloodhounds, guard Dominique Grice (so. North Babylon, NY/North Bablyon) recorded a game-high 21 points. Guard Janina Jurewicz-Johnson (sr. New York, NY/Beacon School) had eight points followed by guard Jessica Lirio (so. Bronx, NY/St. Barnabas) with seven. Forward Zadoora Carson (so. New York, NY/Urban Peace Academy) and forward Parker Griffin (jr. New York, NJ/Bishop Kearney) totaled eight and six rebounds respectively.
The Profs started the game with a 17-2 run in the first 5:28. Lamey scored eight of the 17 points. Nimbley’s jumper at 6:08 made the score 23-10. John Jay cut the deficit to eight (23-15) at 2:17 after two baskets and a foul shot by Grice. Jennings hit a jumper (:43) and Nimbley made one free throw for a 13 point lead (28-15) at the intermission. Grice totaled 11 first half points.
In the second half, John Jay pulled within 11 points (31-20) after a layup by Lirio. Rowan answered with nine straight points to lead by 22 (44-22) at 15:34. Lamey’s basket put the Profs up 49-24 with 13:24 remaining. Rowan’s biggest lead of the game was 27 points at 3:19 (64-37) and 67-40 (:51).
Rowan is home again on Wednesday, December 10 against Penn State Berks at 6 p.m.
