GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team rolled to a 79-45 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win over visiting Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday night.
Forward Jessica Nimbley (jr. Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) led the Profs with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Guards Brynn DeGroff (sr. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) and Gina Catanzariti (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) each chipped in with 11 points. DeGroff recorded six steals while Catanzariti posted six rebounds. Guard Alissa Lamey (fr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) recorded nine assists, eight steals and seven rebounds.
The Profs improve to 3-2 overall while the Scarlet Raptors have a 0-6 mark. It was the first conference game of the season for both teams. For Rutgers-Camden, guard Casey Crenny (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Camden Catholic) scored a game-high 19 points. Guard Morgan Kippley (jr. Riverton, NJ/Delran) and forward Karima Blackwell (so. Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) had nine and seven points respectively.
Rowan started the game with eight straight points in the first 2:43. Nimbley made two baskets and DeGroff had one. Rutgers-Camden trailed by five points (13-8) at 12:39 after a three-pointer by Kippley. The Profs compiled 18 unanswered points in just under six minutes for a 23 point advantage (31-8). In the run, guard Danielle Rohe (jr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) hit two threes and DeGroff nailed one.
Rowan led by 25 points (39-14) after forward Amanda Jenning’s (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) layup with 4:08 left. The Profs were ahead 41-23 at the intermission. DeGroff compiled 11 points in the first half and Crenny scored eight.
In the second period, Rutgers-Camden pulled within 19 points (51-32) at 12:38 after Crenny’s three-pointer. Rowan’s biggest lead of the game was 35 points (77-42) after a layup by forward Kelly Lallave (so. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) with 1:02 remaining. Nimbley led the Profs in the final half with 12 points and Crenny made 11 for the Scarlet Raptors.
Rowan’s next game is at William Paterson University on Saturday, December 6 at 3 p.m. while Rutgers-Camden travels to New Jersey City University for a 2 p.m. contest.
