GLASSBORO, NJ – Guard Allen Pritchett scored the game-winning layup as time expired to give Rowan University a 66-65 win over Rutgers-Camden in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.

With the Scarlet Raptors ahead 65-64, forward Tarik Hanton (jr. Philadelphia, PA/Kensington) missed a free throw and committed a lane violation with three seconds left to give Rowan the ball. Rowan guard Dan Reddan (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) inbounded the ball to half court and Pritchett (jr. Camden, NJ/Woodbury) drove to the baseline and made a layup as the buzzer sounded.

Rowan improves to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference. Rutgers-Camden has a 3-4 record and a 0-1 NJAC mark.

The Profs were led by guard Aaron Spellman (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/St. Joseph’s (Hammonton)) with 14 points and three assists. Forward Tyson Hartnett (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) added 12 points and nine rebounds. Guard Sean Hughes (so. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) contributed with nine points off the bench. Forward Tim Cook (jr. Willingboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Reddan had eight and seven points respectively.

For the Scarlet Raptors, guard Bill Banks (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) scored a game-high 16 points, including four three-pointers. Hanton posted 12 points and seven boards. Guards Joshua Askew (jr. Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Twp.) and Kurt Reinhold (so. Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) registered nine points apiece.

Rowan held a 37-26 advantage at the intermission. In the second period, Reddan sank two free throws at 19:06 to give the Profs a 12 point lead (41-29). Rutgers-Camden fought back and Askew’s three-pointer at 15:19 brought the Scarlet Raptors within four (46-42). Pritchett had a layup at 12:34 to make the score 49-42. Rutgers-Camden scored the next eight points to go ahead for the first time (50-49) at 8:52. Hanton had four of the eight points. Forward Chris Clahar (jr. Philadelphia, PA/Robert Lamberton) connected on a free throw at 5:45 to put the Scarlet Raptors up by four points (56-52). Back-to-back layups by Spellman (5:32) and guard Gary Foster (fr. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) (4:46) tied the game at 56.

Forward Joe Bush’s three-pointer at 2:18 gave Rutgers-Camden a 61-58 advantage. The score was 65-62 with 45 seconds remaining. Rowan guard Billy Care (sr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) (:24) and Spellman (:04) each made a free throw to trail by one (65-64).

In the first half, Rowan jumped out to an 11 point advantage (16-5) over the first 12:51. Spellman and Cook both had six points in the run. The Profs’ biggest lead was 12 points, which occurred three times. The last one was at 5:08 (31-19) following a three-pointer by Hughes. Banks led all scorers with 13 points, while Hartnett had 11 points and six boards.

Rowan travels to William Paterson University on Saturday, December 6 for a 1 p.m. conference game. Rutgers-Camden plays at New Jersey City University at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
