Rowan Wins 72-57 At Neumann

ASTON, PA – The Rowan University men’s basketball team won 72-57 at Neumann College in a nonconference game on Friday night.

The Profs had four players that scored in double figures. Guard Kevin Darby (sr. Atco, NJ/Hammonton) led the way with 19 points. Guard Billy Care (sr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) contributed with 13 points and six rebounds. Guard Allen Pritchett (jr. Camden, NJ/Woodbury) and forward Tim Cook (jr. Willingboro, NJ/Glassboro) added 12 and 11 points respectively. Forward Tyson Hartnett (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) grabbed seven rebounds.

Rowan improves to 6-6 on the season while Neumann drops to 3-5 overall. For the Knights, guard Michael Hitchens scored 13 points and pulled down six boards. Forward Toure’ Wright registered 12 points and seven rebounds. Forward Eli Hitchens totaled nine points and seven rebounds.

The Profs started the game with seven straight points in the first 2:41. The Knights pulled within three points (9-6) after a jumper by guard Anthony Hodges at 15:42. Wright’s layup tied the game at 12 with 10:13 remaining. Rowan retook the lead (20-19) for good after a basket by Pritchett at 6:38. He made the score 24-19 at 5:19 with two foul shots. The Profs were ahead by nine points (32-23) on Care’s layup at 1:17. With three seconds on the clock, Cook nailed two free throws that made the score 36-28 at the half. Darby ended the period with 11 points.

Neumann came back in the second half and trailed by one point (37-36) at 17:45. Rowan went back up by five points (41-36) after baskets by Hartnett (17:29) and guard Aaron Spellman (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/St. Joseph’s (Hammonton) (16:47). Hitchens cut the deficit to four points (48-44) at 11:24. Spellman gave the Profs an eight point advantage (52-44) with two free throws at 9:43. The Knights came within two points (56-54) after Wright’s layup at 7:21. The Profs had a 10-1 run that made the score 66-55 at 4:38. Care made two baskets while Cook, Pritchett and Darby each had one. The Profs were ahead 66-57 with 4:24 left and they finished the game with six unanswered points. Darby made a layup (3:23) followed by two free throws from Pritchett (2:17) and guard Dan Reddan (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) at 1:42.

Rowan takes a break for the holidays then it will host Penn State York on Monday, January 5 at 6 p.m.
