GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan University defeated Berkeley College, 99-45 in the first round of the Heritage’s Dairy Stores Classic on Friday.

Rowan (4-6) will play in the championship on Saturday, December 13 at 3 p.m. against Valley Forge Christian College (10-3). Prior, Berkeley (0-8) will face Penn State Brandywine (2-6) in the consolation game at 1 p.m. Earlier on Friday, Valley Forge Christian had a 71-66 win over Penn State Brandywine.

The Profs had five players in double figures. Forward Tim Cook (jr. Willingboro, NJ/Glassboro) totaled 18 points and 16 rebounds. Guard Billy Care (sr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) posted 15 points and six boards. Forward Kevin Darby (sr. Atco, NJ/Hammonton) and guard Allen Pritchett (jr. Camden, NJ/Woodbury) added 14 points apiece. Forward Gary Foster (fr. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) scored 10 points off the bench. Guard Aaron Spellman (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/St. Joseph’s (Hammonton)) dished five assists.

For the Bulldogs, forward Marcus Jones (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) compiled 10 points and five rebounds. Forward Quashawn Durham (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) chipped in with nine points. Forward Donovan Black (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) contributed with seven points and five boards.

The score was tied (6-6) following a layup by Darby at 16:45 in the first period. Rowan pulled ahead by seven (17-10) after a layup by forward Tyson Hartnett (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) at 13:24. The Profs had a 13-5 surge for a 15 point lead (30-15) with 9:27 on the clock. Care had seven of the 13 points. Berkeley came within 13 points (30-17) after a jumper by forward Jessie Patterson (Newark, NJ/Easton) at 8:32. Rowan closed out the half with a 24-7 run for a 30 point (54-24) halftime advantage. Cook and Pritchett both had eight points. Care led all first half scorers with 13 points. Black recorded seven points for the Bulldogs.

Durham’s jumper at 19:28 in the second cut the deficit to 28 points (54-26). It was the closest Berkeley would come for the remainder of the game. Rowan’s largest lead was 54 points at 3:14 (93-39) and 1:14 (99-45).
