POMONA, NJ – The Richard Stockton College volleyball team won 3-1 over Rowan University in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Thursday night. The set scores were 25-14, 19-25, 25-19 and 25-16.
Stockton, the top seed, hosts the third seed Ramapo College in the conference title match on Saturday, November 8 at 5 p.m. Ramapo defeated number two Montclair State University, 3-1 in the other semifinal match. The NJAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
The Profs end the season with a 16-18 overall record. Rowan was the fourth seed in the tournament and had a 3-0 victory over the fifth seed New Jersey City University in the first round on Tuesday.
The Ospreys were led by outside hitter Amanda Burkart (sr. Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) and middle hitter Audrey O’Donnell (sr. Bogota, NJ/Immaculate Heart) with 18 and 15 kills respectively. O’Donnell hit .375 for the match while Burhart had a .359 hitting percentage. In addition, O’Donnell had four blocks. She was chosen the conference’s Player of the Year. Both Burkart and O’Donnell were named to the NJAC All-Conference first team.
Setter Christine Aletras (sr. Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) compiled 48 assists. Defensive specialist Christine Astarita (so. Selden, NY/Newfield) totaled a match-high 23 digs. Outside hitter Christine Velott (fr. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) contributed with seven kills and 12 digs. She was selected the NJAC Rookie of the Year. Aletras and Velott were All-Conference second team members.
For the Profs, outside hitter Karen Ramirez (jr. Bogota, NJ/Bogota) registered 12 kills and outside hitter Alexis Louie (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) followed with 10. Ramirez also had 13 digs. Setter Chrissy McKay (jr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) accumulated 28 assists and 12 digs. Libero Casey Roselle (so. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) recorded 14 digs. Roselle was the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year and she received honorable mention honors. Louie was named to the NJAC All-Conference second team.
