Kean Upsets No. 10 Rowan, 3-0

UNION, NJ – The Kean University field hockey team upset Rowan University, 3-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest on Thursday night.

The Cougars are 14-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference. Rowan has a 13-4 record with a 3-2 NJAC mark. This week, the Profs were ranked 10th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll.

Kean was led by back Katie McGee (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) with two goals and one assist. Forward Olivia Triano (fr. Keyport, NJ/Keyport) contributed with one goal. The Cougars ended the game with 11 shots while Rowan took 13.

Triano put Kean on the scoreboard at 10:28 with an assist from McGee. It was her eighth goal of the year. The Cougars led 2-0 after McGee’s unassisted goal at 22:16. In the second period, she added an insurance goal at 58:05. For the Cougars, goalie Ashlie Berghold (so. Boyertown, PA/Boyertown Area Senior) made one save for her fourth shutout. Profs’ goalie Lisa Apt (fr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) had two stops.

Rowan hosts conference opponent Ramapo College on Saturday, November 8 at 1 p.m. in the last game of the regular season.
