MAHWAH, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swim teams defeated Ramapo College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) meet on Saturday. The men won with a score of 112-81, while the women had a 117-70 victory.
The Rowan men improve to 4-1 overall and the women are 2-3. The Prof men and women are both 2-0 in the conference. The Ramapo men and women each have a 1-3 record with a 0-2 NJAC mark.
The Profs won all four relays. The women took first place in the 200 medley (1:58.05) and 200 freestyle (1:48.49) relays. Alicia Mackleer (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), Janina Wojcik (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.), Stacey Rahter (so. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) and Kate Winters (so. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.) swam both relays.
The men won the 200 medley (1:43.01) and 200 freestyle (1:33.14) relays as well. The 200 medley relay consisted of Matt Marzolf (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Jake Taylor (so. Millville, NJ/Millville), Stephen Tucker (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart) and Kevin Wallace (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Lenape). Sean Downey (jr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), Ryan McNally (so. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown), Josh Spivey (fr. Margate, NJ/Atlantic City) and Jeff Terrell (fr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) were on the 200 freestyle relay.
The women captured first (11:20.90), second (11:32.12) and third (12:25.58) in the 1,000 freestyle with Julie Furdyna (so. Livingston, NJ/Livingston), Ashley Gagnon (jr. S. Amboy, NJ/Middlesex County Academy) and Anne O’Gorman (so. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) respectively. Mackleer had a first place in the 50 freestyle (26:65). In the 200 individual medley (IM), Samantha King (jr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) was first (2:22.18), Winters followed second (2:24.58) and Steph McAllister (jr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) took third (2:29.68).
Sarah Peay (fr. Morristown, NJ/Morristown) won the 100 butterfly (1:07.12), while Samantha Edwards (so. Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) was first in the 100 freestyle (57.65). Rahter captured first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:30.81. King picked up her second victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.81).
In the 200 freestyle, Heather Sickler (so. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) was second (2:13.49), followed by Meghan McCourt (jr. Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) third (2:15.43). Becky Goldberg (jr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) came in second in the 100 backstroke (1:05.44).
For the men, Spivey, Nate Parsley (fr. Milford, DE/Milford) and Paul Lindinger (fr. Millville, NJ/Archbishop Ryan (PA)) took first (10:32.37), second (11:25.72) and third (11:52.86) respectively in the 1,000 freestyle. Terrell was first in the 200 freestyle (1:54.24), followed by Michael Brooks (so. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit) second (1:56.72). Dan Bower (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) had a first place in the 50 freestyle (23:18). Wallace won the 200 IM (2:04.46) and 500 freestyle (5:06.78). Brian McDermott (so. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) captured first in the 100 butterfly (56.90).
Bill Malone (fr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) came in third in the 50 freestyle (23:63). Jeremy Soto (jr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) took second in the 200 IM (2:07.14). Terrell had a third place in the 100 freestyle (52.73). Marzolf finished second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.05. Taylor was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.44).
Rowan will compete in the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, December 6-7. On Saturday, the prelims start at 9 a.m. and the finals are at 6 p.m. The meet begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
