GETTYSBURG, PA – Three players scored in double figures to lead Rowan University to a 63-56 victory over Elizabethtown College in the consolation game of the Gettysburg Days Inn Tournament.
It was the Profs’ first win of the season. Rowan has a 1-3 record, while Elizabethtown is 2-2. SUNY Geneseo will face Gettysburg College in the championship game at 4 p.m. On Friday, Gettysburg defeated Elizabethtown, 71-56 and SUNY Geneseo topped Rowan, 62-55.
Rowan was led by forward Tyson Hartnett (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) with 15 points and three steals. Guard Billy Care (sr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) added 13 points, a game-high nine rebounds and three steals. He earned All-Tournament Team honors. Guard Dan Reddan (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) contributed with 10 points and forward Gary Foster (fr. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) had seven.
For Elizabethtown, guard Joe Flanagan (so. Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) scored 15 points. Center Mike Church (jr. Peach Bottom, PA/Solanco) followed with nine points. Guards Keith Fogel (so. Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) and Chris Fairbanks (jr. Lititz, PA/Warwick) had seven points apiece. Forward Josh Houseal (jr. Landisville, PA/Hempfield) and center Chris Hill (so. Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) pulled down eight and seven rebounds respectively.
The game was tied 10-10 at 13:02 in the first period. Elizabethtown went on a 20-6 run over the next 8:54 to go ahead 30-16. Flanagan totaled seven points in the stretch. Rowan fought back by scoring the final 15 points of the half to a take a 31-30 lead at the intermission. Care had four points and Foster hit a three-pointer. Flanagan scored all 15 of his points in the first half. Care and Reddan recorded eight and six points respectively for the Profs.
In the second stanza, the score was tied six times with the last one coming at 8:56 (50-50). Rowan moved ahead by five (56-51) following two free throws from guard Kevin Darby (sr. Atco, NJ/Hammonton) at 4:05. Care sunk two foul shots at 1:26 for an eight point cushion (59-51). Reddan’s layup with 11 seconds left gave Rowan its biggest advantage of the game (63-54).
Rowan hosts Gwynedd-Mercy College on Tuesday, November 25 at 6 p.m.
