IMMACULATA, PA – The Immaculata University men’s basketball team won 67-61 in a nonconference game over Rowan University on Tuesday night.
The Mighty Macs (1-0) were led by forward Darnell Forde (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Solebury School) with a game-high 22 points. Forward Josh Alderson (sr. Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) followed with 21 points and guard Sean Fordham (sr. Melrose Park, PA/Cheltenham) added 10.
For Rowan (0-2) , guard Kevin Darby (sr. Atco, NJ/Hammonton) scored 17 points. Guard Dan Reddan (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) contributed with 12 points and forward Tyson Hartnett (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had 11. Guard Billy Care (sr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and Hartnett grabbed seven.
The Profs started the second half, trailing by four points (34-30). Hartnett and Care each hit a basket that tied the score with 19:23 remaining. The score was tied four more times before the Mighty Macs took the lead for good. Guard Kyle Finklea (sr. Sharon Hill, PA/Penn Wood) made a jumper to tie the game at 49 (8:54). Immaculata then had 11 unanswered points to lead 60-49 at 5:27. Forde scored six points in the run. Reddan nailed two straight three-pointers to cut the deficit to five points (60-55) with 4:41 left. Finklea’s layup made the score 64-55 at 3:41. The Profs pulled within five points (64-59) after two foul shots by Darby (2:31). The Mighty Macs made three-of-four free throws in the last 30 seconds to seal the win.
The score was tied at 12 in the first half at 14:31. Fordham hit a jumper for a two-point advantage (14-12) at 12:53. Rowan trailed by one point (20-19) after Darby’s three-pointer (9:11) and Reddan put the Profs up 22-20 with a three (8:35). Immaculata came back to retake the lead, 29-27 at 3:35 on Fordham’s three-pointer. He ended the half with 10 points. The Mighty Macs were up by four points (34-30) at the intermission.
This weekend, Rowan travels to Gettysburg College for a tournament. On Friday, Elizabethtown College plays Gettysburg at 6 p.m. followed by SUNY Geneseo versus Rowan at 8 p.m. The consolation game is at 2 p.m. on Saturday followed by the championship at 4 p.m.
