YORK, PA – Four players scored in double figures to lead York College (PA) to a 99-63 victory over Rowan University in a nonconference game on Tuesday night.

York improves to 1-1. It was the first game of the season for Rowan. Guard Keli Ward (sr. Nottingham, PA/Oxford) led the Spartans with her second career triple-double. She recorded 21 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. Guard April Sparkman (so. Walkersville, MD/Walkersville) added 19 points, eight boards and five assists. Guard Amanda Andrews (sr. Fallston, MD/Fallston) and forward Chanel Perez (sr. Biglersville, PA/Gettysburg) were also in double figures with 14 and 10 points respectively. Andrews pulled down five rebounds and dished five assists, while Perez had four rebounds.

For the Profs, forward Thena Gaines (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) totaled 10 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Ashley Cieplicki (sr. Haworth, NJ/Dumont) posted a team-high 17 points. Forward Jessica Nimbley (jr. Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) contributed with 12 points, four rebounds and four steals.

York started the game with a 7-0 run over the first 2:30. Sparkman nailed a three-pointer, while forward Jaimie Sapp (so. Bluemont, VA/Loudoun Valley) and Ward each had a field goal. Cieplicki’s basket at 16:54 made the score 9-6. The Spartans followed with a 21-3 surge to go ahead 30-9 at 10:31. Ward posted eight points and Sparkman had five. York’s largest lead of the half (48-17) came with 12 seconds left after a layup by Sparkman.

At 11:42 in the second period, guard Donna Figenshu (sr. Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) made a three-pointer to put the Spartans ahead by 46 points (78-32). The closest the Profs would come was 34 points at 5:45 (83-49) and 1:54 (95-61).

Rowan travels to Washington & Jefferson College for the Holiday Inn Meadow Lands Classic on Friday-Saturday, November 21-22. On Friday, Rowan plays Otterbein College at 6 p.m., followed by Kenyon College against Washington & Jefferson at 8 p.m. The losers will face each other in the consolation on Saturday at 2 p.m. The winners will meet in the championship at 4 p.m.
