GLASSBORO, NJ – Midfielder Ashley Hackman scored the game-winning goal at 79:17 to give Eastern University a 2-1 victory over Rowan University in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
Eastern (16-5) advances to the sectionals to play the winner of the second round game between Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Loras College. The sectionals will be Friday-Saturday, November 21-22 or Saturday-Sunday, November 22-23. It is the Eagles second straight trip to the national tournament and first appearance in the sectionals. Rowan finishes the season with a 16-1-2 record.
Hackman (sr. Perkasie, PA/Christopher Dock) kicked the ball into the back of the net following a scramble in the box. At 59:26, Hackman had an unassisted goal at 59:26 to tie the game (1-1). She knocked in a loose ball after it deflected off a Rowan defender. The Profs led 1-0 at the intermission, after an unassisted goal on a free kick by midfielder Veronica Rhea (fr. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI).
Rowan took 22 shots, while Eastern had 12. Goalkeeper Amanda Daveler (sr. Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) stopped seven shots in the Eagles’ net. Goalkeeper Sarah Volkomer (jr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) made four saves for the Profs.
