GRANTHAM, PA – Rowan University forward Amanda Greene scored the game-winner in a 5-4 overtime victory against Trinity College (CT) in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The game was played at Messiah College in Grantham, PA.
Rowan (15-4) plays Messiah College (15-1) in the third round on Sunday, November 16 at 1 p.m. Earlier on Saturday, Messiah defeated Eastern University (15-7), 3-0. Trinity finishes the season with a 13-5 record.
Greene (sr. Thorofare, NJ/Gloucester) had an unassisted goal at 77:56 in the first overtime. Rowan trailed 4-1 after the first half. Forward Lauren Ross (so. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) had her second goal at 42:28 in the second period. Back Kelly Angstadt (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) picked up the assist. Angstadt followed with goals at 52:50 and 55:35 to tie the game (4-4). Greene assisted on the first goal and the second one came on a penalty stroke.
In the first, Trinity went up 1-0 after a goal by forward Karli Del Rossi (sr. Mantua, NJ/Peddie School) at 5:18. Forward Carolyn Wolcott (jr. Hamilton, MA/Groton) had the assist. At 11:07, back Payson Sword (fr. Princeton, NJ/Lawrenceville) scored on a penalty corner from Robyn Williams (so. Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Girls’ College) and Wolcott. Williams’ goal at 18:51 made the score 3-0 and Sword collected the assist. Sword tacked on a goal at 24:02 with an assist from Wolcott. Ross knocked in a pass from midfielder Rachael Dix (fr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) at 26:19 to cut the deficit to 4-1 at the intermission.
Rowan took 20 shots, while Trinity had 10. Goalie Lisa Apt (fr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) made three saves in 70:50 for the Profs. Goalie Brittney Galloway (fr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gateway Reg.) played 9:10. For the Bantams, goalie Gina Dinallo (fr. West Hartford, CT/William H. Hall) stopped 14 shots.
