GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s swim team defeated SUNY New Paltz, 148-114 on Saturday. The SUNY New Paltz women topped Rowan, 143-119.

The Rowan men won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.74. The team consisted of Matt Marzolf (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Dan Bower (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Stephen Tucker (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart) and Bill Malone (fr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic). The Profs also took first place in the 400 freestyle relay (3:17.65) with Josh Spivey (fr. Margate, NJ/Atlantic City), Ryan McNally (so. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown), Kevin Wallace (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Lenape) and Malone.

Jeff Terrell (fr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) captured first place in the 1000 freestyle (10:18.16). In the 200 freestyle, Malone was first (1:45.84) and Michael Brooks (so. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit) came in third (1:50.76). Jake Taylor (so. Millville, NJ/Millville) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.83, followed by Bower, second (1:03.86). Taylor was also a winner in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.67). Wallace and Jeremy Soto (jr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) were first (2:01.19) and second (2:03.98) respectively in the 200 butterfly. In addition, Wallace won the 100 butterfly (52.97), while Soto was first in the 200 individual medley (IM) (2:04.23). Malone had a first place in the 100 freestyle (48.06).

Marzolf claimed second place in the 100 backstroke (56.44). Spivey came in second in the 50 freestyle (22.28). Brian McDermott (so. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) was third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.47. Bower finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.97) and Terrell took second in the 500 freestyle (5:02.73). Tucker was second in the 100 butterfly (55.79).

For the women, Samantha Edwards (so. Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) won the 200 (2:01.86) and 500 (5:25.60) freestyles. Kate Winters (so. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.) took first in the 100 (1:02.14) and 200 (2:15.59) backstrokes. Stacey Rahter (so. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) had firsts in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.06), 100 butterfly (1:00.94) and 200 IM (2:15.90).

Julie Furdyna (so. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) came in second place in the 1000 freestyle (11:18.99). Ashley Gagnon (jr. S. Amboy, NJ/Middlesex County Academy) was second in the 200 butterfly (1:07.61).

Alicia Mackleer (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) and Janina Wojcik (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) finished second (25.42) and third (25.78) respectively in the 50 freestyle. Mackleer was also second in the 100 freestyle (56.37). In the 200 breaststroke, Samantha King (jr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) came in second (2:38.29), followed by Gagnon third (2:39.46). Anne O’Gorman (so. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) captured third in the 100 butterfly (1:03.87).
