CANTON, NY – The Rowan University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the NCAA Atlantic Regional on Saturday. The men finished 15th overall out of 34 schools. The women were 12th among 30 institutions. The regional was held at St. Lawrence University.
Jena Peacock (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) was the women’s team top runner. Peacock came in 25th overall with a time of 24:12 on the 6K course. Danielle Czohla (fr. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) came in 69th (25:19) and Alli Catenacci (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) finished 80th (25:35). Rounding out the scoring were Eileen O’Mara (fr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) 89th (25:47) and Lisa Jones (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) 97th (25:57).
Greg Kuczynski (sr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) was the first finisher for the men’s team. Kuczynski was 56th in 27:20 over the 8K course. Andrew Vasta (sr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) took 80th place(27:43) followed by Brian Quilty (so. Brick, NJ. Saint Rose) 84th (27:49). Eric Dubois (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) was 102nd (28:04) and Eric Thomas (sr.
Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) came in 110th (28:10).
The men’s championship was won by SUNY Cortland and SUNY Geneseo captured the women’s title. The men’s individual champion was Hamilton College’s Peter Kosgei with a time of 25:19. St. Lawrence University’s Wendy Pavlus captured the women’s individual title in 22:32. They both qualified for the NCAA Championships. The Cortland men’s team and New York University advance to the national championships next weekend. The Geneseo women along with Cortland qualified for the NCAAs. The remaining at-large teams and individuals will be selected by the NCAA on Sunday.
The NCAA Division III Championships will be held at Hanover College (IN) on Saturday, November 22 at 11 a.m.
