CHESTER, PA – The Rowan University field hockey team won 5-1 over host Widener University on Wednesday.

The Profs were led by forward Lauren Ross (so. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) with two goals. Forward Amanda Greene (sr. Thorofare, NJ/Gloucester) contributed with one goal and one assist. Forward Nicole Valianti (so. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) and back Lauren Conner (fr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) added one goal apiece. Backs Kim Brozosky (sr. Richwood, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and Jen Lipnickey (sr. Chester, NJ/West Morris-Mendham) each had one assist.

Rowan, ranked 10th in the nation, has an 8-2 record while Widener drops to 4-7 on the season. The Profs out shot the Pride, 30-5. In the first half, goalie Lisa Apt (fr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) made four saves in the Rowan net. Goalie Brittney Galloway (fr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gateway Reg.) played the second period and had two stops. For Widener, goalie Megan Purcell (so. Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) turned away 12 shots.

The Profs had a 1-0 lead after the first half. Ross scored the first goal at 29:53 with an assist from Lipnickey. At 35:48, Valianti had the second and Greene assisted. Ross found the net a second time at 36:50 from Brozosky. Greene’s unassisted goal at 42:18 made the score 4-0. Forward Jackie Elliott (jr. Upper Darby, PA/Upper Darby) scored Widener’s lone goal at 45:36 with an assist from midfielder Megan Scarpinato (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.). Conner’s unassisted goal at 66:57 ended the scoring.

Rowan is home on Saturday, October 11 against conference opponent and second ranked The College of New Jersey at 7 p.m.
