BROCKPORT, NY – Quarterback Frank Wilczynski threw for 296 yards and four touchdowns to lead Rowan University to a 37-20 win over The College at Brockport in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.

Rowan improves to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Brockport has a 1-3 record with a 1-2 mark in the NJAC.

Wilczynski (jr. Pine Hill, NJ/Overbrook) completed 22 of 35 passes. He also ran for a game-high 133 yards on 18 carries. Wide receiver Davon Edwards (sr. Whitesboro, NJ/Middle Twp.) had seven receptions for 99 yards and three touchdowns. Superback Ryan Leafey (jr. Westville, NJ/Deptford) caught seven balls for 66 yards. He added 38 yards on 20 rushes. Tight end Derek Piccini (jr. Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield Mem.) contributed with a 21 yard touchdown grab.

The Profs’ defense was led by defensive end Kyle Kane (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) with 12 tackles, three tackles for a loss (-10 yards), two pass breakups, one forced fumble and one sack (-8 yards). Safety Mike Barone (jr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) compiled eight tackles and one fumble recovery. Linebacker Drew Yezzi (jr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) registered five tackles, one tackle for a loss (-1 yard), one pass breakup and one fumble recovery.

For Brockport, quarterback Zach Luke (sr. Cambridge, NY/Cambridge) threw for 239 yards and one touchdown, completing 16 of 34 pass attempts. Running back Garet Lynch (sr. Valley Stream, NY/Springfield Gardens) ran for 48 yards and two touchdowns on 18 touches and he had four receptions for 48 yards. Wide receiver Matt Newman (jr. Unadilla, NY/Unadego) made five catches for 71 yards, while wideout Felipe Diaz (jr. Syracuse, NY/Onondaga) had three grabs for 50 yards and one touchdown.

The Golden Eagles had five players in double-digit tackles. Linebacker Nick Duchscherer (sr. Youngstown, NY/Lewiston-Porter) recorded a game-high 13 stops, including one tackle for a loss (-2 yards). Defensive lineman Josh Day (sr. Hornell, NY/Hornell) made 11 tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss (-2 yards). Defensive back Neil Fay (so. Olean, NY/Olean) and linebackers Garrett Axtell (jr. Windsor, NY/Windsor) and Jarrett Woodfork (sr. Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) posted 10 tackles apiece.

Rowan went ahead 7-0 following an 18 yard touchdown pass from Wilczynski to Edwards at 13:16 in the first quarter. The drive started on the Brockport 45 yard line after the opening kickoff went out of bounds. Wilczynski had a 22 yard run to setup the touchdown. At 9:30 in the second period, Profs’ kicker Mark Getsinger (fr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) made a 19 yard field goal. Wilczynski was five for five totaling 60 yards in the drive. Edwards had a 13 yard touchdown catch at 4:44. Wilczynski broke free on a 29 yard scamper and threw a 12 yard pass to wide receiver Val Terebizh (jr. Fort Lee, NJ/Fort Lee) prior to connecting with Edwards. Piccini caught a 21 yard touchdown pass with 20 seconds left to give the Profs a 24-0 halftime advantage. Kane forced a fumble and Yezzi recovered it at Rowan’s 30 yard line. Wilczynski’s 24 yard rush and Edwards’ 27 yard reception made way for the touchdown.

Brockport finally got on the scoreboard at 12:21 in the third. Luke threw a 21 yard touchdown pass to Diaz. Newman had a 13 yard catch and Lynch ran for 19 yards to setup the score. On the ensuing possession, Getsinger connected on a 22 yard field goal to increase Rowan’s lead to 20 points (27-7). Wilczynski completed three passes for 53 yards in the drive.

Lynch ran three yards for a touchdown at 14:55 in the fourth quarter. Luke accumulated 71 yards passing on five completions prior to Lynch’s run. Getsinger’s 28 yard field goal at 10:48 made the score 30-14. Leafey had an 11 yard run and Wilczynski had tosses of 15 and 16 yards. Lynch’s second touchdown scamper from three yards out at 8:43 cut the deficit to 10 points (30-20) after a failed two-point conversion. Luke completed three passes for 56 yards in the drive. Edwards’ 24 yard touchdown reception with 4:56 remaining sealed the victory for the Profs. A 17 yard run by Wilczynski and a 16 yard catch by wideout Marcus Lee (jr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) set up the touchdown.

Rowan hosts Western Connecticut State University in a NJAC game on Saturday, October 11 at 1 p.m. Also on Saturday, Brockport is at home against conference opponent The College of New Jersey at 1 p.m.
