SALISBURY, MD – The Rowan University men’s swim team defeated Salisbury University, 160-101 on Tuesday. The Salisbury women had a 134-128 over Rowan.
The men and women both took first place in the 200 medley relay. The women’s team of Becky Goldberg (jr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), Stacey Rahter (so. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Janina Wojcik (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) and Alicia Mackleer (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) won in 2:09.96. The men finished in 1:56.78 with Brian McDermott (so. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic), Sean Downey (jr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), Kevin Wallace (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Lenape) and Josh Spivey (fr. Margate, NJ/Atlantic City). The women also captured first in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:55.95. The group consisted of Wojcik, Jackie Heide (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic), Rahter and Mackleer.
Samantha King (jr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:21.47. Ashley Gagnon (jr. S. Amboy, NJ/Middlesex County Academy) took third (1:23.27). Mackleer and Wojcik finished first (28.56) and second (29.08) respectively in the 50 freestyle. In the 100 freestyle, Mackleer took first in 1:02.83. Rahter claimed first place in the 200 breastroke (2:52.96). Wojcik came in first in the 100 butterfly (1:10.13).
Julie Furdyna (so. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) finished second in the 800 (10:16.23) and 400 freestyle (5:01.52). Rahter and Heide were second (2:20.39) and third (2:25.09) in the 200 freestyle. Goldberg came in second place in the 100 backstroke (1:14.67) followed by Steph McAllister (jr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) third (1:15.14). Michelle Dunn (fr. Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) took second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:53.11. Heide took third in the 100 freestyle (1:06.31). Goldberg captured second in the 200 backstroke (2:37.79) and Sarah Peay (fr. Morristown, NJ/Morristown) was third (2:45.35). King and Gagnon were second (2:37.29) and third (2:39.80) respectively in the 200 IM.
Jeff Terrell (fr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) won the 800 freestyle (9:16.92) and 200 IM (2:24.20). Rowan swept the 100 backstroke. Bill Malone (fr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) was first (1:03.96), Matt Marzolf (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) took second (1:05.47) and McDermott was third (1:08.78). Wallace captured first in the 200 butterfly (2:17.03). Spivey came in first in the 50 freestyle (25.03) and Jake Taylor (so. Millville, NJ/Millville) was third (26.48). Malone and Stephen Tucker (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart) were first (55.51) and second (58.08) respectively in the 100 freestyle. Marzolf won the 200 backstroke in 2:22.35 and Nate Parsley (fr. Milford, DE/Milford) was third (2:31.84).
Spivey took first in the 400 freestyle (4:32.46), while Michael Brooks (so. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit) was second (4:39.96). In the 100 butterfly, Wallace claimed first place (59.14) and Richard Del Valle (so. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) was third (1:06.56).
In the 200 freestyle, Brooks took second (2:07.83) followed by Kevin Sheridan (fr. E. Brunswick, NJ/E. Brunswick) third (2:08.88). Dan Bower (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) had a second place in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.93). Taylor and Bower were second (2:48.75) and third (2:49.32) respectively in the 200 breaststroke. McDermott had a second place finish in the 200 IM (2:27.62).
