Rowan Defeats Conference Opponent Rutgers-Newark, 2-0

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team defeated Rutgers-Newark, 2-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Sunday. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was postponed because of the weather.

The Profs scored one goal in each half. Forward Dana Ross (so. Delran, NJ/Delran) had the first one at 33:42. Ross knocked in the ball that had bounced off several players. It was her sixth goal on the season. In the second half, forward Mandy Silvesti (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored at 59:28 after forward Michelle Carrocino’s (so. Mickelton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) shot hit the crossbar.

Rowan has an overall record of 13-0-1 and a 7-0-1 mark in the conference. This week, the Profs are ranked third in the Middle Atlantic Region and 14th in the nation. Rutgers-Newark is 9-7-2 overall with a 2-5-1 NJAC mark.

Rowan took 17 shots while Rutgers-Newark had two. Goalie Sarah Volkomer (jr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) made two saves for her seventh shutout. For the Scarlet Raiders, Kat Renteria (fr. North Bergen, NJ/Cliffside Park) turned away seven shots.

Rowan’s game on Monday, October 27 against York College (PA) was cancelled because of the conference game that was rescheduled on Sunday. The women’s soccer team ends the regular season at Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, October 29 at 6 p.m.
