BUFFALO, NY – Quarterback Frank Wilczynski recorded one rushing and one passing touchdown in Rowan University’s 20-7 win over Buffalo State College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.

Rowan improves to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Buffalo State has a 0-7 record and a 0-6 NJAC mark.

Wilczynski (jr. Pine Hill, NJ/Overbrook) rushed for 82 yards on eight carries. He completed eight of 19 passes for 58 yards. Super back Brett Scott (so. Bellmawr, NJ/Triton Reg.) ran for 74 yards on 11 touches, while wide receiver Davon Edwards (sr. Whitesboro, NJ/Middle Twp.) added 52 yards on two attempts. Superback Ryan Leafey (jr. Westville, NJ/Deptford) had a 14 yard touchdown catch.

The Profs limited the Bengals to 115 yards of total offense (74 rushing and 41 passing). Linebacker Drew Yezzi (jr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) led the way with 10 tackles. Nose guard Justin Hinds (sr. Port Reading, NJ/Woodbridge) and linebacker Kevin Taylor (jr. Westwood, NJ/Westwood Reg.) posted six stops apiece. Defensive end Kyle Kane (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) registered two sacks (-16 yards), while Hinds had 1.5 (-9 yards). Kane also forced a fumble and defensive end Matt Hoffman (so. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) recovered it. Safety Jimmy DiPaolo (sr. N. Plainfield, NJ/N. Plainfield) contributed with an interception. Linebacker Jerome Gordon (so. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton) blocked a punt in the end zone for a safety.

For Buffalo State, quarterback Kenny Murphy (fr. Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) had five completions in 16 attempts for 41 yards. Running back Sammy Smith (jr. Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) carried the ball 18 times for 61 yards. Wideout Joe Russell (sr. N. Tonawanda, NY/Tonawanda) made three grabs for 21 yards.

Linebacker Matt Pacana (sr. N. Tonawanda, NY/Tonawanda) compiled a game-high 16 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss (-5 yards) and one sack (-1 yard). Linebacker Paul Gruber (jr. Levittown, NY/Division Avenue) followed with 15 stops, while linebacker Jermaine Rose (jr. Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) and safety Scott Forster (sr. E. Otto, NY/Cattaraugus-Little Valley) each had 10. Cornerback Joe Schriever (so. E. Amherst, NY/Williamsville E.) intercepted two passes, while cornerback Brian Lavis (sr. Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

Rowan went ahead 7-0 at 11:19 in the first quarter on a 14 yard touchdown pass from Wilczynski to Leafey. Edwards broke free for a 48 yard run to set up the TD. The Bengals tied the game at 7:24 in the second period. Rowan punter Andrew Smith (jr. Howell, NJ/Freehold Twp.) fumbled the ball in the end zone and Lavis recovered it for the touchdown. At 4:17, Gordon blocked a Buffalo State punt that went out of the end zone for a safety to give the Profs a 9-7 halftime lead.

Rowan kicker Mark Getsinger (fr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) made a 29 yard field goal at 8:30 in the third stanza to make the score 12-7. Scott ran for 62 yards on seven carries in the 13 play, 77 yard drive. Wilczynski added a 42 yard touchdown scamper at 9:26 in the fourth. With 7:51 remaining in the game, Hinds and Hoffman combined to sack Murphy in the Bengals’ end zone for a safety.

Rowan hosts Kean University in a NJAC game on Saturday, November 1 at 1 p.m. Buffalo State travels to NJAC opponent William Paterson University at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
