GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team defeated New Jersey City University, 4-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday night.
The Profs, ranked 14th in the nation, are 11-0-1 overall and in first place of the conference with a
6-0-1 mark. The Gothic Knights have a 7-8 record and they are 0-7 in the NJAC.
Rowan had a 3-0 lead after the first half. Forward Michelle Carrocino (so. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) started the scoring at 2:15. She hit the net with a free kick for her 13th goal of the season. Midfielder Nina Fragoso (fr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) knocked in a cross (20:49) by midfielder Krista Verzi (jr. Delran, NJ/Delran). Forward Dana Ross (so. Delran, NJ/Delran) scored the third goal unassisted at 36:39.
In the second period, Verzi one timed a pass from forward Mandy Silvesti (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) for the Profs’ final goal at 60:52. Forward Jennifer Albuja (so. Union City, NJ/Hoboken) spoiled the shutout with 5:10 left in the game. Albuja blasted a shot to the upper left corner of the net. It was her 23rd goal on the season.
Rowan totaled 36 shots while New Jersey City took seven. Goalie Sarah Volkomer (jr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) made two stops for the Profs. Goalkeeper Kelly Reilly (so. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) started for the Gothic Knights. Reilly turned away five shots in the first 70 minutes. Danielle Barker (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) was in NJCU”s net for the remainder of the game.
Rowan is home again on Tuesday, October 21 against St. Joseph’s College (LI) at 7 p.m.
