Rowan Defeats Morrisville State, 58-14 in its Homecoming game

GLASSBORO, NJ – Quarterback Frank Wilczynski rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another in Rowan University’s 58-14 win over New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponent Morrisville State College in its annual Homecoming game.

Rowan improves to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference. Morrisville State has a 0-6 record and a 0-6 NJAC mark. It is the first year for the Mustangs in the NJAC and their third provisional year as a member of the NCAA Division III.

Wilczynski (jr. Pine Hill, NJ/Overbrook) carried the ball six times for 94 yards. He completed seven of 14 passes for 112 yards. Wilczynski broke the University records for most rushing touchdowns (7 by Mike Orihel, 2005; Larry Lewis, 1985) and yards gained in a season by a quarterback (356 yards on 128 rushes by Larry Lewis, 1985). He now has 422 yards and eight touchdowns on 66 carries. Superback Ryan Leafey (jr. Westville, NJ/Deptford) ran for 93 yards and one touchdown on nine attempts. Superback Stephen Hevalow (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) added 64 yards and one TD with 18 rushes. Wide receiver Marcus Lee (jr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) had a 49 yard touchdown reception.

The Profs only allowed 117 yards of total offense (107 passing and 10 rushing). Defensive end Matt Hoffman (so. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) totaled eight tackles, four tackles for a loss (-26 yards), three sacks (-23 yards), one forced fumble and one pass deflection. Safety Rocky Aliberti (so. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) contributed with six tackles, two pass breakups and one interception. Linebacker Drew Yezzi (jr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) recorded two interceptions and safety Mike Barone (jr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) and cornerback Ken Quinones (sr. Dover, NJ/Dover) each had one. Cornerback Ted Plunkett (so. Trenton, NJ/Peddie School) forced a fumble, while cornerback Cody High (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) recovered one. Linebacker Jerome Gordon (so. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton) blocked two punts and recovered one in the end zone for a touchdown. Tight end Kevin DelleDonne (fr. Summit, NJ/Summit) also blocked a punt.

For the Mustangs, quarterback Michael Sollo (fr. North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) threw for 69 yards and a touchdown. He connected on seven of 15 passes. Wideout Eddie Hull (sr. Brewerton, NY/Central Square) made six grabs for 42 yards and a TD. Wide receiver Joe Shue (so. Phoenix, NY/G Ray Bodley) had 24 yards on two catches.

Defensive end Luke Visingard (sr. Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell) and linebacker EJ Maeweather (so. Syracuse, NY/Cass Tech) both had 10 tackles. Visingard also blocked a field goal attempt. Linebacker Quintin Jones (fr. Rochester, NY/John Marshall) made eight stops, including 1.5 tackles for a loss (-4 yards). Defensive tackle Jack Glen (fr. Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) added seven tackles. Linebacker Dennis Drywa (fr. East Islip, NY/East Islip) forced and recovered a fumble. Defensive back David Easley (fr. Staten Island, NY/Curtis) posted one interception.

Rowan jumped out to a 16-0 lead after the first quarter. At 8:44, Wilczynski hit Lee with a 49 yard touchdown pass. Kicker Mark Getsinger (fr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) made a 28 yard field goal at 5:52. Leafey added a 66 yard TD run with 1:27 on the clock. In the second, High recovered a fumble and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown at 12:42. Wilczynski found the end zone with an eight yard touchdown run at 3:29 and Gordon blocked a punt and recovered it for a TD with 41 seconds left to give the Profs a 30-0 halftime advantage.

In the third period, Morrisville State wide receiver Maurice Mitchelson (fr. Bronx, NY/John F Kennedy) returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. Wilczynski broke free for a 60 yard touchdown run at 10:17, making the score 37-7. Sollo threw a 33 yard touchdown pass to Hull at 6:25. Hevalow’s one yard TD carry gave the Profs a 51-14 advantage. Backup quarterback Vinnie Graff (jr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) ran 20 yards for a touchdown at 5:29 in the fourth to end the scoring.

Rowan travels to conference opponent Buffalo State College on Saturday, October 25 at noon. Morrisville State hosts Kean University at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
