GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan University defeated New Jersey City University, 3-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Thursday.
The Profs won with set scores of 25-23, 25-18, 21-25 and 29-27. Rowan improves to 11-11 overall and 3-3 in the conference. New Jersey City has an 11-8 record and a 4-3 NJAC mark.
Outside hitter Alexis Louie (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) totaled 16 kills, 16 digs and two service aces. Middle blocker Chelsea Bowman (jr. Penns Grove, NJ/Salem County Christian Academy) added 10 kills. Libero Casey Roselle (so. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) registered 32 digs, while outside hitter Karen Ramirez (jr. Bogota, NJ/Bogota) had 15. Setters Chrissy McKay (jr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) and Sarah Betancourt (fr. Harrington, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) posted 24 and 15 assists respectively.
For the Gothic Knights, middle blocker Sarah Torres (sr. Elizabeth, NJ/Science) had a match-high 20 kills and four blocks. Middle blocker Jennifer Hatch (jr. Paterson, NJ/Mary Help of Christians Academy) recorded 11 kills and outside hitter Jacqueline LeBlanc (sr. Westfield, NJ/Westfield) contributed with 10. LeBlanc also tallied 22 digs. Libero Lyanelly Negron (sr. Union, NJ/Union) compiled 16 digs and outside hitter Theresa Carvalho (so. Rahway, NJ/Rahway) had 15. Setter Alex Johanesen (so. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) accumulated 43 assists and 10 digs.
Rowan travels to Susquehanna University for the Hampton Inn Crusader Classic on Friday-Saturday, October 17-18. On Friday, Rowan plays York College (PA) at 6 p.m. and Susquehanna at 8 p.m. The Profs face Misericordia University at noon on Saturday, followed by a match against Richard Stockton College at 2 p.m. New Jersey City hosts Rutgers-Newark in a conference match on Saturday at 1 p.m.
