GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Jay Vigilante scored the game-winner to give Rowan University a 2-1 win over Kean University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday.
It was the Profs first conference victory. Rowan is 6-7-3 overall and 1-4-1 in the NJAC. Kean has a 4-10-1 record and a 0-6 conference mark.
Vigilante (sr. Manasquan, NJ/Wall) dribbled passed a defender and kicked the ball into the back of the net at 63:20 for the win. Kean was ahead 1-0 after the first period. Midfielder Mark Wallis (sr. New Gretna, NJ/Pinelands) knocked in a feed from midfielder Rob Sopko (jr. Lake Como, NJ/Manasquan) and forward Andres Berriel (fr. Las Piedras, Uruguay/Carteret) at 35:40. Rowan forward Tommy Orr (jr. Delran, NJ/Delran) tied the game with a header off a corner kick by forward Mike Pascale (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) at 54:54 in the second half.
Rowan took 14 shots, while Kean had 11. Goalkeeper Charlie Cunliffe (so. Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) made three saves in the Profs’ net. Goalie Alfredo Oquendo (so. North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) stopped four shots for the Cougars.
Rowan travels to New Jersey City University on Saturday, October 18 for a 1 p.m. conference game. Kean is at Rutgers-Newark on Saturday at 7 p.m.
