GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Leigh Mitchell scored the game-winner in overtime to lead The College of New Jersey to a 3-2 victory over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday night.

TCNJ, ranked second in Division III, improves to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Rowan, ranked 10th, has an 8-3 record and a 2-1 NJAC mark.

At 74:18 in overtime, back Jackie Gelinas (sr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) fed Mitchell (so. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) for the game-winning goal. Rowan tied the game (2-2) at 36:29 in the second period on an unassisted goal by midfielder Janna Tighe (so. Thorofare, NJ/Gateway Reg.).

The Lions went ahead 1-0 three minutes into the first half. Midfielder Alexandria Okuniewicz (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) scored on a penalty corner and Gelinas picked up the assist. At 16:57, forward Katie Reuther (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) added an unassisted goal to put TCNJ up 2-0. Profs’ forward Amanda Greene (sr. Thorofare, NJ/Gloucester) scored on a pass from back Kim Brozosky (sr. Richwood, NJ/Clearview Reg.) to cut the deficit to one at 18:29.

TCNJ took 12 shots, while Rowan had 11. Lions’ goalie Shannon Syciarz (fr. Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made three saves. Goalie Lisa Apt (fr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) turned away seven shots in the Profs’ cage.

Rowan hosts Susquehanna University on Wednesday, October 15 at 6 p.m. TCNJ plays at NJAC opponent Ramapo College on Tuesday, October 14 at 4 p.m.
