RADNOR, PA – Guard Glenn Washington scored 19 points to lead the Cabrini College men’s basketball team to a 78-72 come from behind victory over Rowan University on Saturday.

Washington (fr. Wayne, PA/Radnor) made five of 12 shots from the floor, four of nine three-pointers and five of six free throws. Forward Randy Reid (sr. Philadelphia, PA/Monsignor Bonner) contributed with 18 points and seven rebounds. Guard Charles Bush (so. Houston, TX/Harriton (PA)) added 10 points.

With the win, Cabrini improves to 5-6, while Rowan has a 9-2 record. Profs’ guard Billy Care (jr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) scored a career-high 23 points and pulled down six rebounds. Guard Kevin Darby (jr. Atco, NJ/Hammonton) and Aaron Spellman (jr. Pine Hill, NJ/St. Joseph’s (Hammonton)) each had 18 points. Spellman also grabbed a career best seven boards.

Rowan led 45-33 at halftime. The Cavaliers started the second period by scoring nine straight points to pull within three (45-42) at 17:30. Guard Ryan Oxley (jr. Germansville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) had five of the nine points. Washington’s three-pointer at 14:40 tied the game at 49. He made another three at 13:47 to give the Cavaliers the lead for good (52-49). Cabrini was ahead 59-50 at 10:31. Rowan went on a 10-3 run to cut the deficit to two points (62-60) with 3:55 remaining. Care had four points, while Spellman hit a three-pointer. Washington’s three with 2:40 left to play made the score, 69-60. Darby connected on a three-pointer at 00:23 to bring Rowan within four (74-70), but Cabrini held on with two free throws each from forward Bruce MacLelland (sr. Kimberton, PA/Phoenixville) and Reid.

In the first half, Bush’s jumper at 18:07 gave the Cavaliers a one point advantage (3-2). Care made two three-pointers and forward Rahim Shiver (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) had a layup to put Rowan up 10-3 at 15:41. The Profs led 12-7 at 14:10. Rowan reeled off the next 10 points to go ahead 22-7 at 11:41. Spellman had four points and Care, Darby and Shiver each added two. Cabrini fought back and Reid’s layup at 6:07 cut the deficit to three points (28-25). Shiver’s layup at 4:01 increased Rowan’s lead to nine (34-25). Spellman nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to make the score 45-33 at the intermission.

Spellman had 15 points at the half. Darby and Care followed with 11 and 10 points respectively. For Cabrini, forward Greg Clifton (sr. Sharon Hill, PA/Academy Park) had nine points, while Reid scored seven.

Rowan hosts Richard Stockton College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on Wednesday, January 9 at 8 p.m.
