GETTYSBURG, PA – The Rowan University swim teams split with Gettysburg College on Saturday. The Prof men had a 113-91 victory, while the women lost 137.5-66.5.
The Rowan men improve to 5-2, while the women are 4-3. The Gettysburg women are 6-0 and the men have a 3-2 record. The Prof men captured first place in the 400 medley (3:41.95) and 400 freestyle relays (3:18.47). The medley relay was comprised of Kevin Baker (sr. Landing, NJ/Roxbury), James Sheerin (sr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford), Kevin Wallace (jr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Dan Kelley (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick). Jim Smith (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.), Stephen Tucker (so. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart), Kelley and Baker made up the freestyle relay.
Smith took first in the 50 freestyle (22.43), followed by Kevin Ovalle (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) second (23.00). Michael Brooks (fr. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit) was first in the 1,000 freestyle (10:26.48) and third in the 500 free (5:18.43). Jeremy Soto (so. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) came in first in the 200 individual medley (IM) with a time of 2:05.10. Andrew Williams (sr. Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) was the winner in the 100 freestyle (50.52) and he was third in the 200 IM (2:05.67).
Baker finished second in the 200 backstroke in 1:59.14. Kelley captured second in the 200 freestyle (1:52.02), followed by Chris Mahoney (fr. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) third (1:52.65). In the 200 butterfly, David Shinton (sr. Newark, DE/Newark) came in second place (2:05.77) and Wallace was third (2:06.69). Mahoney was third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:21.89.
The women won the 400 freestyle relay (3:44.78) and took second in the 400 medley relay (4:16.15). Janina Wojcik (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.), Christine DiRubbo (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), Aileen Milde (sr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) and Alicia Mackleer made up the freestyle relay. The medley relay was comprised of Stephanie McAllister (so. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Meghan McCourt (so. Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Stacey Rahter (fr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) and Wojcik.
Samantha Edwards (fr. Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) took first in the 500 freestyle (5:16.50) and second in the 200 freestyle (2:01.40). Mackleer was first in the 50 free (25.62) and second in the 100 free (56.61). Julianne Furdyna (fr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) finished third in the 1,000 freestyle (11:28.36), while McAllister was third in the 200 backstroke (2:20.90). In the 200 breaststroke, McCourt came in third place with a time of 2:36.89.
Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, January 23 at 6 p.m.
