COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Rowan University men’s and women’s indoor track teams opened the 2008 season at the Collegeville Classic hosted by Ursinus College. The men finished eighth out of 14 schools, while the women were 10th out of 14 institutions.
Kyle Hayes (fr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) won the long jump with a distance of 23’3.5” (7.10 meters), which was better than the NCAA provisional qualifier (6.96 meters). He also took fourth in the 55 meter dash (6.65) and sixth in the 200 meters (23.61). Brian Makinson (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) tied for fourth place in the high jump with 5’10” (1.78 meters). Nick Tyson (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) captured sixth in the pole vault with a height of 13’ (3.96 meters). Nehemiah Burney-Porter (so. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) tied for seventh in the 55 meter hurdles (8.23) and took ninth in the triple jump with 41’7.25” (12.68 meters). Michael Rivera (jr. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley) finished eighth in the one mile run (4:37.35). The 4x200 meter relay came in fourth place in 1:38.71.
For the women, Dannielle Warren (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) was third in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.69. She also captured eighth place in the long jump with a distance of 15’8.75” (4.79 meters). Angela Patane (jr. Monroeville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) came in fifth in the 5,000 meter run in 19:18.81.
