GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Jillian Kane scored 18 points to lead Rowan University to an 88-46 victory over Penn State Abington on Monday night.
Rowan improves to 9-5, while Penn State Abington has a 3-7 record. Kane (so. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) made nine of 15 field goals. Forward Kaitlin Guy (jr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) totaled 11 points and six rebounds. Guard Nicole Perrini (sr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) added nine points, while forward Ashley Cieplicki (jr. Haworth, NJ/Dumont) had eight. Forward Jessica Nimbley (so. Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) and guards Kathryn Ruhno (fr. Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens) and Gina Catanzariti (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) each grabbed six rebounds. Nimbley also had six steals, while guard Kristina Wallace (sr. Logan Twp., NJ/Clearview Reg.) dished five assists.
For the Lions, guard Meghan Yost and forward Danielle Regan scored 16 points apiece. Yost also had seven boards. Forward Shana Jordan posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Rowan never trailed in the contest. The Profs started the game with a 12-0 run over the first 3:02. Cieplicki led the way with four points, while Nimbley and Perrini each had three. Yost’s basket at 13:13 made the score 18-9. Rowan scored the next 15 points to go ahead 33-9 at 8:15. Kane and Catanzariti had four points apiece. Rowan’s largest lead of the half was 33 points (49-16) at 1:28. The Profs held a 49-17 advantage at the intermission.
In the second period, the Profs went up, 59-22 on a layup by Wallace at 15:05. The closest the Lions came was 29 points (61-32) following a foul shot by Yost at 12:01. Rowan’s biggest lead was 42 points at 1:13 and 00:28.
