GLASSBORO, NJ – Quarterback Tim Hagerty threw two touchdown passes and ran for two others to lead Rowan University to a 41-0 win over Widener University on Saturday.
With the win, the Profs improve to 2-1, while the Pride have a 1-2 record. Hagerty (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) completed nine of 24 passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns. He also carried the ball 14 times for 65 yards and two touchdowns. Superback Rob Richardson (sr. Hackensack, NJ/Garfield) totaled 97 yards and one touchdown on 16 rushes. Superback John Impagliazzo (jr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) rushed for 77 yards on 14 touches and Jonathan Downes (so. Gibbstown, NJ/Valley Forge Military (PA)) added 48 yards on seven runs. Wide receiver Billy Magill (fr. Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) finished with 60 yards on two receptions.
The Profs limited the Pride to 101 yards of total offense (19 rushing and 82 passing). Safety Kelvin Bellamy (sr. Trenton, NJ/Nottingham) led the way with seven tackles. Linebackers Andrew Yezzi (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) and Matthew Bailey (so. Pittsgrove, NJ/Schalick) added six and five stops respectively. Defensive end Randy Tosh (sr. Columbia, NJ/North Warren Reg.) totaled five tackles and one sack (-4 yards).
For Widener, quarterback Matt Campbell (sr. Broomall, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) completed 13 of 24 passes for 82 yards. Wide receiver Mike Falkenstein (sr. Newark, DE/St. Mark’s) made three grabs for 56 yards. Wideout Mark Bandola (so. Clarksburg, NJ/Notre Dame) contributed with 22 yards on four catches.
Linebacker Shane Szumski (so. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) recorded a game-high 12 tackles. Cornerback John Martorell (sr. Aston, PA/Chichester) posted nine stops and linebackers Kyle Sweitzer (fr. York, PA/William Penn) and Eric Feinschil (sr. Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter) made six tackles apiece.
Rowan jumped out to a 7-0 lead following a 12 yard touchdown run by Richardson at 9:45 in the first quarter. Richardson ran for 27 yards on five carries and Hagerty completed two passes for 17 yards to set up the score. Hagerty had a three yard rush for a touchdown at 1:08 to put the Profs up 14-0. Cornerback Ahmad Stokes’ (fr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) interception at the Widener 19 yard line set up the drive. Downes had a 16 yard carry before Hagerty found the end zone. In the second stanza, Hagerty broke free on a 39 yard touchdown scamper at 6:47. Prior to scoring, Hagerty completed a 42 yard pass to Magill. With 24 seconds remaining, Hagerty connected with Magill on an 18 yard touchdown pass for a 28-0 advantage at the intermission. Rowan gained possession following a forced fumble by defensive end Josh Bonzella (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) that was recovered by Bailey.
In the third quarter, Hagerty found wide receiver Vinnie Graff (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) in the corner of the end zone from nine yards out to make the score 35-0. Richardson had a 34 yard to set up the touchdown pass. In the final period, kicker Dan Roberts (sr. Eastampton, NJ/Hamilton W.) connected on field goals from 38 yards (13:23) and 36 yards (9:14).
Rowan begins its New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule against Western Connecticut State University on Saturday, September 29 at noon.
