Field Hockey Defeats William Paterson, 3-2 in OT

WAYNE, NJ – Forward Danielle Miranda scored the winning goal in overtime for a 3-2 victory over New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponent William Paterson on Friday night.

Miranda (sr. Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) recorded the game winner on a penalty stroke at 80:49. Rowan improves to 4-2 on the season while William Paterson is 4-4 overall. It was the first conference game for both teams. This week, the Profs are ranked 10th in the nation in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll.

Miranda had the Profs’ first goal of the game at 39:41. She knocked in a rebound from two yards out from the Pioneers’ net. Forward Rachel Cheafsky (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) gave Rowan a 2-0 lead at 52:44. Cheafsky connected with back Erin Tideman (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) on a penalty corner.

Forward Meghan Hall (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) had two straight goals to tie the score. Hall’s first one came at 55:46 on a pass from midfielder Jodi Feriod (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro). The second was unassisted at 61:22.

Rowan totaled 18 shots while William Paterson had seven. Profs’ goalie Amanda Cucinotti (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) made four saves. For the Pioneers, goalie Christina Auger (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) stopped seven shots.

Next week, Rowan travels to Salisbury University on Tuesday, September 25 for a 5 p.m. game.
