Women's Soccer Defeats Rutgers-Camden, 5-2

GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Michelle Carrocino scored three goals to lead Rowan University over Rutgers-Camden, 5-2 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.

Carrocino (fr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) has 11 goals on the season. This week, she was honored as the NJAC’s Rookie of the Week.

Rowan was won six straight games and is 6-1 overall with a 2-0 conference mark. Rutgers-Camden is 3-2-3 on the season and 0-1-1 in the NJAC.

In the first half, Carrocino put the Profs on the scoreboard at 27:17 when she knocked in a rebound after midfielder Kerry Little (sr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) took a shot. Midfielder Kate Campbell (so. Mt. Ephraim, NJ/Audubon) tied the game at 34:54. Five minutes later, Carrocino made it 2-1 off of a corner kick.

Back Jayme Gatti (jr. Delran, NJ/Delran) tied the score one more time for the Scarlet Raptors. Gatti found the net with an assist from midfielder Vanessa Maia (fr. Union, NJ/Union). Carrocino recorded her third goal on the night at 60:30. She knocked in a cross from forward Dana Ross (fr. Delran, NJ/Delran).

Ross had a goal of her own at 78:59 when she headed in a free kick by forward/back Megan Bry (so. Gibbsboro, NJ/Eastern Reg.). Forward Samantha Becker (sr. Clementon, NJ/Highland Reg.) had Rowan’s final goal with 1:01 remaining.

The Profs totaled 27 shots while the Scarlet Raptors had five. In the Rutgers-Camden net, goalie Kristen Cargen (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) made 10 stops. Rowan goalie Sarah Volkomer (so. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) had two saves.

Rowan is home again on Thursday, September 20 versus Philadelphia Biblical University
