GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team shutout Baruch College, 2-0 in the final game of the Harrison House Invitational.
In the second round on Saturday, The College of New Jersey blanked Medgar Evers College, 9-0. TCNJ captured the invitational title based on goal differential. On Friday, The College of New Jersey had a 2-0 win over Baruch while host Rowan defeated Medgar Evers, 7-1.
Goalie Matt Kasperavicius (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) from TCNJ was selected the Most Valuable Player. Rowan players Eric Campesi (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.), Tom Gannon (sr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Jason Dugan (so. Seaville, NJ/Ocean City) and Scott Brody (jr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) were chosen to the All-Tournament team. Baruch selections were Nelson DiBastiano and David Shin.
Both of the Profs’ goals came in the second half. Back James Cox (so. Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) scored the first one at 55:38 on a corner kick with an assist from forward Sean Goldsworthy (sr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central). Gannon added an insurance goal at 76:27 which was unassisted.
Rowan outshot Baruch, 19-7. In the Profs’ goal, Kevin Nuss (sr. Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) made three saves for the shutout. For the Bearcats, DiBastiano totaled 10 saves.
Next week, Rowan travels to the University of Scranton on Wednesday, September 5 for a 7 p.m. game.
