Rowan Falls 4-1 To NJAC Champion Rutgers-Camden

MONTCLAIR, NJ – Rutgers-Camden won its second straight New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) title with a 4-1 victory over Rowan University in the championship round on Sunday.
 
Rutgers-Camden (31-13) receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The Scarlet Raptors are the defending national champion. In the conference tournament, Rutgers-Camden was the third seed while Rowan was seeded sixth. The Profs finish the season with a 23-17 record. 
 
First baseman Kathleen Dreitlein (jr. Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) led the Scarlet Raptors with two RBIs. Pitcher Megan Farrell (sr. Medford, NJ/Bishop Eustace) went two for three with a double, one RBI and one run scored. Catcher Mo Baney (sr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) contributed with two hits in three at bats. Farrell went the distance on the mound for her 13th victory. She (13-5) only allowed three hits and struck out five batters.
 
For Rowan, third baseman Kristin Wallace (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Washington Twp.) went two for three with a double. Left fielder Stacy Haas (sr. Florence, NJ/Florence Twp. Mem.) recorded an in-the-park home run. Right hander Amanda Riegel (jr. Millville, NJ/Sacred Heart) had four strikeouts in the loss. 
 
Rutgers-Camden jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Dreitlein’s two run homer in the second inning. She knocked in Farrell who singled to get on base. The Scarlet Raptors scored one run in the third. Farrell had a RBI double that drove in center fielder Marissa Van Cleef (so. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough). In the bottom half, Rowan had its one run. With one out, Haas had a shot to right field that rolled to the fence and she rounded the bases for a home run. Van Cleef scored the Scarlet Raptors’ final run on a sac fly in the seventh inning.
