GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan University swept a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader over New Jersey City University on Monday. The Profs had a 10-8 victory in the first game and a 14-4 win in five innings in the second.
Rowan improves to 16-8 overall and 4-2 in the conference. New Jersey City has an 8-16 overall record and a 0-6 NJAC mark. Right hander Danielle Lawlor (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) threw six innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out seven batters for the win in the first game. Pitcher Amanda Riegel (jr. Millville, NJ/Sacred Heart) pitched one scoreless inning for her first save. Right hander Reannon Trogdon (fr. Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Reg.) took the loss in relief.
Designated player Jen Lake (sr. Carneys Point, NJ/Penns Grove) went three for three with four RBIs, one run scored and a double. Third baseman Kristin Wallace (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Washington Twp.) had three hits (four at bats), two RBIs, two runs scored and a double. Right fielder Heidi Smith (fr. Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) recorded two hits in three at bats, two RBIs, one run scored and a double. First baseman Jamie Assini (sr. Deptford, NJ/East Brunswick) and left fielder Stacy Haas (sr. Florence, NJ/Florence Twp. Mem.) each had one run and one RBI, while second baseman Lauren Navarro (jr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) crossed the plate twice.
For the Gothic Knights, Trogdon went two for three with two runs scored, one RBI and a double. Second baseman Lacey Skowronski (fr. Bayonne, NJ/Holy Family Academy) totaled three hits (three at bats), three RBIs and a double. Catcher Vanessa Nicolich (jr. Cliffside Park, NJ/St. Mary’s (Rutherford)) had two runs scored and one RBI and pitcher Andrea Delucrezia (so. Belleville, NJ/St. Mary’s (Rutherford)) added one run and one RBI. Shortstop Susie Matsutani (jr. Gallup, NM/Gallup) and center fielder Christina Prospero (fr. Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) scored two and one run respectively.
The Gothic Knights tied the game at seven in the top of the fifth. Nicolich’s single scored Trogdon and Skowronski brought Nicolich home with a double. In the sixth, Delucrezia walked with the bases load to put New Jersey City ahead 8-7. Rowan answered with three runs in the bottom half. Lake’s single scored two runs and Smith’s single drove in Lake.
New Jersey City scored five runs in the first inning. Trogdon singled in the first run and Prospero and Trogdon both came home on an error. Skowronski drove in two runs with a single. Rowan tied the game in the bottom of the second inning. Haas brought Smith home with a single and Wallace knocked in two runs with a single. Lake followed with a double that plated Wallace and Navarro. Rowan added one run in the third and four innings. Assini had a RBI triple in the third and pinch runner Loren Pashley (fr. Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) came home on Smith’s sacrifice fly.
In the second game, Riegel allowed four earned runs and struck out seven hitters for her seventh win. Trogdon took the loss for the Gothic Knights.
Shortstop Sarah Carangelo (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) went three for three with four RBIs, two runs scored and a double. Center fielder Kristina Brenner (so. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) had one hit (two at bats), three runs scored, one RBI and a triple. Designated player Kim Ryan (sr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) crossed the plate three times and Smith scored twice. Navarro was three for four with four RBIs and a double. Assini contributed with two runs and two RBIs, while Haas had two RBIs and one run scored.
Trogdon recorded two hits (three at bats) and two RBIs for the Gothic Knights. Third baseman Christen Hall (fr. East Rutherford, NJ/Becton Reg.) added two RBIs and Matsutani scored twice. Nicolich and Skowronski had one run apiece.
New Jersey City led 1-0 after a RBI single by Trogdon in the first inning. In the top of the second, Carangelo doubled in two runs, Brenner had a RBI triple and scored on a ground out by Haas. Hall’s single in the bottom half of the inning plated Nicolich to make the score 4-2. Carangelo drove in Ryan with a single in the third. Smith came home on a double steal, Assini knocked in two runs with a double to right field and Navarro’s single brought Assini home. Rowan was ahead 9-2. In the fourth, Ryan came home on a single by Carangelo and Smith scored on Haas’ single. Navarro hit a double to center field that drove in three runs. New Jersey City got two runs in the bottom half. Skowronski came home on a ground out and Trogdon had a RBI single.
Rowan hosts Richard Stockton on Tuesday, April 10 in a conference doubleheader at 3 p.m.
