GLASSBORO, NJ – Attack Katie Kline totaled six goals and three assists to lead Rowan University to a 18-8 win over visiting Drew University on Saturday.
Rowan improves to 5-6, while Drew has a 7-3 record. Attacks Lauren Crennan (so. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and Caitlin Meseroll (jr. Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) each scored three goals for the Profs. Crennan also assisted on three goals. Midfielder Kelly Angstadt (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and defenders Maureen Doyle (sr. Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point) and Shana Smeriglio (sr. Ocean, NJ/Ocean Twp.) added one goal and one assist apiece. Attack Carly Welsh (so. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) contributed with two goals, while midfielder Alayna Morris (fr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) had one.
For the Rangers, attack Alexandra Bailly (sr. Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) and midfielder Lindsey Perno (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) scored two goals apiece. Midfielders Courtney Cunningham (sr. Garden City, NY/Our Lady of Mercy), Samantha Silver (fr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and Alex Weber Reitz (sr. Brea, CA/Troy) and attack Meghan Santaniello (jr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) each found the net once. Cunningham recorded two assists, while Silver had one.
Drew outshot Rowan, 29-22. Profs’ goalie Alicia Mannino (so. Richboro, NJ/Conwell-Egan Catholic) made 12 saves for her fourth win. Goalie Stef Rutkowski (fr. Wilmington, DE/Tower Hill School) stopped three shots for the Rangers.
Rowan went up 1-0 at 1:07 in the first period following an unassisted goal by Morris. Drew answered with goals from Silver (3:26) and Santaniello (6:03) for a 2-1 advantage. Meseroll’s goal at 7:30 tied the game at two. The Profs scored four goals in the next seven minutes for a 6-2 lead at 14:55. Kline had two goals and Crennan and Angstadt each added one. Bailly found the net at 18:56, but Rowan answered with four in a row. Kline had two more goals and Smeriglio and Meseroll had one apiece. Cunningham scored with 24 seconds remaining in the half to make the score 10-4 at halftime.
In the second period, the Profs and Rangers exchanged goals three times over the first 11 minutes. Weber Reitz’s goal at 44:14 cut the deficit to 13-8. Rowan scored the final five goals of the game to seal the victory. Kline had two goals, while Welsh, Meseroll and Doyle each had one.
Rowan travels to Eastern University on Thursday, April 12 at 4 p.m.
