William Paterson Comes Back To Defeat Rowan, 4-2

GLASSBORO, NJ – The William Paterson University baseball team scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat Rowan University, 4-2 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Thursday.
 
The Pioneers trailed the Profs, 2-1 heading into the ninth inning. Right fielder Mike Guadango (fr. Upper Saddle River, NJ/Northern Highlands) singled, third baseman Jon Marzella (sr. Cedar Knolls, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) walked and pinch hitter Ryan Brand (sr. Monroe, NJ/Marlboro) was intentionally walked to load the bases. Catcher Don Hays (jr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) layed down a sacrifice bunt that scored Guadango. Shortstop Dan Limone (jr. Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) followed with a line drive to right field that brought home Marzella and Brand.
 
William Paterson improves to 11-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference. Rowan has a 10-9 overall record and a 2-2 NJAC mark. Right hander Christian Miranda (sr. Bogota, NJ/Bergen Catholic) pitched the final 3.1 innings, allowing one hit for the win. Right handed starter Mike Irwin (sr. North Haledon, NJ/Manchester Reg.) tossed 5.2 innings and struck out seven hitters. For Rowan, right handed pitcher Kevin O’Hara (so. Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) allowed all three Pioneer runs in the ninth for the loss. Lefty Gary Winkler (jr. Glendora, NJ/Paul VI) threw eight innings, scattering six hits and giving up one earned run.
 
The Pioneers were led by Limone with one hit (four at bats) and two RBIs. First baseman Ted King (sr. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor South) went one for three with a RBI. Left fielder Don Reinertsen (sr. Swartzwood, NJ/Kittatinny) and Guadango contributed one hit and one run apiece. Center fielder Rick Pignatello (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) recorded two hits (three at bats).
 
Rowan right fielder Frank Hasenauer (jr. Iselin, NJ/John F. Kennedy) was two for four with a run scored. Center fielder Roger Turley (jr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) added one hit (five at bats) and one run scored. Third baseman Tom Ready (so. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.), designated hitter Tim Edmeads (sr. Newfield, NJ/Buena Reg.), left fielder Brian McLaughlin (sr. Glendora, NJ/Triton Reg.) and shortstop Tim Barnshaw (so. Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick) each had one hit.
 
The Profs had a 2-0 lead after scoring one run in both the first and third innings. Turley scored on an error in the first and Hasenauer came home on a wild pitch in the third. The Pioneers’ first run came in the fourth inning following a RBI single by King that plated Reinertsen.
 
Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey for a NJAC game on Friday, April 6 at 3:30 p.m.
