Rowan Wins 16-8 On the Road Over Scranton

SCRANTON, PA – Attack Katie Kline scored four goals in Rowan University’s 16-8 win at the University of Scranton on Tuesday night.
 
Kline (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingwood) also had two assists. Attack Caitlin Meseroll (jr. Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) and midfielder Kelly Angstadt (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) each contributed with three goals. Defender Shana Smeriglio (sr. Ocean, NJ/Ocean Twp.) and attack Lauren Crennan (so. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) added two goals apiece while attack Carly Welsh (so. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) and midfielder Alayna Morris (fr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) both had one.
 
Rowan is 6-9 overall while Scranton is 5-8 on the season. For the Royals, midfielder Jackie Messantonio totaled a game-high five goals. Attacks Kristen Marquino and Erin Quinn and midfielder Heather Melone each found the net one time. Attack Kaitlyn Mimnaugh and Melone assisted on two goals apiece. 
 
The Profs outshot the Royals, 38-23. Goalie Alicia Mannino (so. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) made 15 saves in Rowan’s goal. Scranton goalie Kristina Goetz stopped 11 shots.
 
With 21:55 remaining in the second half, Rowan was down by one (8-7). The Profs then ended the game with nine straight goals. Three minutes later, Angstadt started the scoring with a free position goal followed by Meseroll with two straight.  Angstadt had her third goal with 9:40 left. Kline and Crennan each scored unassisted. Smergilio’s second score came on a free position. Morris and Welsh had goals under the 30 second mark, assisted by Kline. 
 
Kline led the Profs in the first half with three goals while the Royals’ Messantonio scored four times. At the intermission, Rowan was ahead 7-6.
 
Rowan ends the season at home on Thursday, April 26 against Messiah College at 7 p.m. It is the final game for the Profs’ head coach Mary Marino who is retiring at the end of the season.
