Rutgers-Camden Takes Two From Visiting Rowan

CAMDEN, NJ – The Rutgers-Camden softball team took both games from visiting Rowan University on Tuesday. The Scarlet Raptors edged the Profs, 6-5 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opener and 2-1 in the nightcap.
 
Reliever Natalie Powell (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown, NJ) pitched 5.1 scoreless innings for the win in the first game. Powell only gave up three hits. Designated player Autumn Millett (sr. Richwood, NJ/Clearview Reg.) went two for five with two RBIs. Catcher Mo Baney (sr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) and shortstop Alaina Giles (sr. Willingboro, NJ/Holy Cross) each contributed with two hits (three at bats) and one RBI.
 
For Rowan (21-13, NJAC 9-7), third baseman Kristin Wallace (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Washington Twp.) had a double and two RBIs. Right fielder Heidi Smith (fr. Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) went one for three with a triple, one RBI and one run scored. 
 
The Scarlet Raptors trailed 5-2 going into the bottom of the seventh. Pinch runner Mary Beth Foley (fr. Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) scored on an error. Millett tied the game with a two RBI single. First baseman Kathleen Dreitlein’s (jr. Berkele Heights, NJ/Gov. Livingston) sacrifice fly plated the winning run that was scored by center fielder Marissa Van Cleef (so. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough). 
 
The Profs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning. Smith’s triple to center field brought home designated player Kim Ryan (sr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick). Second baseman Lauren Navarro (jr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) walked with the bases loaded, scoring the second run and Smith crossed home plate on a ground out. Wallace had a two RBI double. Rutgers-Camden got on the scoreboard with two runs in the fifth. Baney and Giles both had RBI singles. 
 
In the second contest, right hander Megan Farrell (sr. Medford, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep) went the distance on the mound for her ninth victory. Farrell (9-5) scattered five hits and struck out five. Dreitlein went four for four with one RBI. Millett added two hits in three at bats and one RBI. 
 
Rutgers-Camden (25-13, NJAC 11-5) went up 2-0 after one run in the first and second innings. Dreitlein singled in the first run while Millett drove in the second. Rowan’s lone run came in the fourth inning. Shortstop Jenna DiDonato (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) doubled in pinch runner Loren Pashley (fr. Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon). 
 
Rowan ends its conference schedule at home against Montclair State University on Saturday, April 28 at
1 p.m. The top six teams in the conference advance to the NJAC Championship Tournament that starts on Tuesday, May 1.
