Rowan Wins Two At The College Of New Jersey

EWING, NJ – The Rowan University softball team won both games at The College of New Jersey on Sunday. The Profs took the first game, 5-2 and they had a 3-2 victory in the second. 
 
Right hander Amanda Riegel (jr. Millville, NJ/Sacred Heart) went the distance on the mound in the first game for her 10th win. Riegel (10-6) scattered seven hits and struck out five. Right fielder Heidi Smith (fr. Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) contributed with a double, two RBIs and one run scored. 
 
Designated player Kim Ryan (sr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/S. Brunswick) went two for four and scored one run. First baseman Jamie Assini (sr. Deptford, NJ/East Brunswick) added two hits (four at bats), one double and one RBI. Second baseman Lauren Navarro (jr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) had two hits in four at bats and scored one run. 
 
For the Lions, designated player Danielle Hagel (fr. Egg Harbor City, NJ/Oakcrest) went three for three with two doubles and two runs scored. Second baseman Tara Harrigan (sr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) had two hits, one double and one RBI. 
 
In the third inning, TCNJ got on the scoreboard with a RBI single by first baseman Jess Kohut (sr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley). Rowan tied the score in the fifth when Assini doubled in a run. The Lions went back up by one in the bottom half. Harrigan’s double down the left field line brought home Hagel. 
 
Rowan took the lead with two runs in the sixth. Third baseman Kristin Wallace (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored the tying run on a wild pitch. Pinch hitter Amanda Brown (jr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) singled in Smith. The Profs added two insurances runs in the seventh. Smith scored both of the runs with a double.
 
Right hander Danielle Lawlor (jr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) had the win on the mound in the second contest. Lawlor (11-5) only gave up four hits in seven innings. Ryan went two for three with one RBI. Assini and Navarro each contributed with one hit and one run scored. Hagel had two hits (three at bats) and scored one run for the Lions. Harrigan added one hit and one RBI.
 
The Profs trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Catcher Jen Lake (sr. Carneys Point, NJ/Penns Grove) reached base on an error that scored Assini. Ryan singled to center field, sending home Navarro. Wallace advanced to third on Ryan’s single and scored the winning run on a wild pitch. 
 
Both of the Lions’ runs came in the sixth inning. Right fielder Katie Davenport (sr. River Edge, NJ/River Dell) crossed home plate on an error and Hagel scored on a double steal.
 
The Profs have an overall record of 21-11 and they are 9-5 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. TCNJ is 14-14 overall with a 4-10 conference mark. Rowan is on the road again at Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday, April 24 at 3 p.m.
