Rowan Men Take Third Place At CTC Championships

CENTER VALLEY, PA – The Rowan University men’s track and field team took third place at the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Championships and the women finished in 11th place. The championships were held Saturday-Sunday, April 21-22 at DeSales University. 
 
Tim Bowser (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville) won the high jump with 6’ 8” (2.03 meters). His jump was a NCAA provisional (2.02 meters). Sean Corey (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) took second in the javelin (188’ 7”, 57.49 meters) and recorded a NCAA provisional (57.30 meters). 
 
Anthony Witter (jr. Millville, NJ/Bridgeton) totaled 5,706 points for third place in the decathlon. In the decathlon events, Witter won the long jump (20’ 6.5”, 6.26 meters), the shot put (45’ 8.5”, 13.93 meters) and the discus (132’ 5”, 40.36 meters). Andrew Vasta (so. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) finished third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:23.46.
 
Bryan Pittman (sr. New Brunswick, NJ/New Brunswick) had a fourth place in the 200 meters in 22.53 while Chima Nwosu (sr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) came in fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 50.08. Erik Geisinger (sr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) took fourth in the 1,500 meters (4:03.85). Nick Tyson (jr. Mt. Holly, NJ/Lenape) was fifth in the pole vault (12’ 11.5”, 3.95 meters). Nehemiah Burney-Porter (fr. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) had a fifth place finish in the triple jump with 43’ 4.25” (13.21 meters). 
 
The 4x100 relay took second (43.16) with the team of Pittman, Bowser, John Barbadoro (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Burney-Porter. Joe Minch (sr. Yardville, NJ/Bordentown), Nicholas Huddy (fr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.), Dan Urban (sr. Clarksboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and Geisinger were on the second place 4x800 relay (8:11.21). The 4x400 relay came in third (3:20.39) with Bowser, Taylor Kirk (fr. Oceanport, NJ/Shore Reg.), Minch and Nwosu. 
 
For the women, Chereyse Hepburn (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Oakcrest) won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.21. Eileen Batten (fr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) was third in the javelin with a toss of 115’ 2” (35.11 meters). 
 
In the shot put, Karen Johnson (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) came in fifth (37’ 3”, 11.35 meters) while Ali Briggs (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) was 10th (34’ 0.25”, 10.37 meters). Briggs also had a 12th place in the discus with 98’ 6” (30.02 meters). Michelle Lala (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) finished sixth in the high jump with a leap of 5’ (1.52 meters). 
 
The Rowan men’s track and field team has a few individuals that qualified for the Penn Relays on Friday, April 27. Both the men and women’s teams will compete at the Lions’ Relays held at The College of New Jersey on Saturday, April 28.
