MAHWAH, NJ – The Ramapo College baseball team took both games of a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader over Rowan University on Saturday. The Roadrunners won the first game, 12-5 and the second, 6-5.
Ramapo has an overall record of 24-6 and is in first place in the conference with a 9-2 mark. Rowan drops to 12-14 on the season and 3-7 in the NJAC.
Tim Seiden (jr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) was the winning pitcher in the first game. Seiden (3-1) pitched 6.1 innings of relief and did not give up a run. Designated hitter Jordan Descafano (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) went two for three with two RBIs and one run scored. Left fielder John Callandrello (so. Montville, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) and catcher Shaun Hanrahan (jr. West Keansburg, NJ/Raritan) each contributed with two RBIs. Right fielder Jairo Jimenez (jr. Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton) recorded two doubles while center fielder Justin Donnarumma (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) and Hanrahan each had a home run.
For Rowan, right fielder Tim Edmeads (sr. Newfield, NJ/Buena Reg.) went three for five with a triple, three RBIs and one run scored. Third baseman Tom Ready (so. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) and center fielder Roger Turley (jr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) totaled three hits piece. Left fielder Frank Hasenauer (jr. Iselin, NJ/John F. Kennedy) added two hits (five at bats), a home run, one RBI and one run scored.
Rowan went up 5-2 in the top of the third inning. Edmeads tripled in Turley and Ready. Turley reached base with a walk and Ready had a single. Ramapo took the lead with three runs in the bottom half. Descafano singled in one run and Callandrello crossed home plate on a wild pitch. Pinch hitter Mark Ruggiero (fr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex Reg.) scored Descafano with a single.
In the second game, Joey Cacchiola (fr. Union, NJ/Union) had the win on the mound. Cacchiola (4-0) pitched four scoreless relief innings, only allowing one hit. Center fielder Nick Sbarra (jr. Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.) went two for four with two doubles, one RBI and three runs scored. Descafano had two RBIs with one hit. Shortstop Gary Miller (sr. Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.) contributed with two hits (two at bats) and one scored run.
Turley had two doubles in five trips to the plate, two RBIs and one run scored. Catcher Bobby Fox (jr. Ocean Twp., NJ/Ocean Twp.) went three for five with a double and one RBI. Edmeads had two hits (three at bats) and one run scored.
Ramapo had a 2-0 lead after scoring one run in the first and second innings. Rowan tied the score at two in the third. Fox singled in Edmeads and Hasenauer scored on first baseman Rob Ritterson’s (jr. Sewell, NJ/George Washington (PA) sacrifice fly. The Roadrunners came back with two runs in the fifth. Turley put the Profs on top for the last time with a two RBI double in the sixth inning. Ready had a RBI that brought Turley home. In the bottom of the sixth, Descafano singled in the tying and winning runs.
Rowan will travel to William Paterson University on Monday, April 16 for a rescheduled conference game at 3:30 p.m.
